My scrap space is in the basement that I used to share with DS. There is all sorts of junk on my stuff now. I used to have a handle on where stuff went but now I have no idea. i don't really know where to begin again either. I have a whole bunch of layout kits that I guess I should start there and work forward?

I have my scrap space in the basement and it works well for me. My scrap room is split as 1/2 playroom and 1/2 scrap room. I then put a table next to my craft table for my girls to do some crafting. My girls are 3 and 5 and they love me downstairs because that way they are not afraid to be in a different room than me.

just for me, I would prefer to have my scrap space more centrally located (which wouldn't work in our current house). My crafting space is one of the spare bedrooms upstairs, and while it's (finally) set up pretty good as far as organizing my stuff for the way I work, I hardly ever spend any time up there... I don't like being up in there by myself. The big television is in the family room, which is downstairs right next to the kitchen. (therefore, my BF, the dogs, and the cats spend most of their time in the family room.)
Right now if I wanted to do crafts downstairs, I would have to lug everything down there and set it all up on the kitchen table and then pick it up again when I'm done with it, which I don't like doing.

I had that decision to make when I moved to my current home 5 years ago . . . previous home my scrap space was away from the main house im a finished room off the back of the garage. It was private, but I felt really isolated. It worked before we brought our boys home from Russia, but I wanted to be around my family. Now I have the spare room that is right off the living room and right around the corner from the kitchen. The closet of my room backs up to the kitchen wall. It is perfect. It is next to where my family is watching the same movie for the 5th time, or where I can see and hear my kids jumping on the tramp in the back yard. If the timer goes off in the kitchen, I can be right there. It has a door and it closes if I need privacy or quiet. Best of all worlds! Decided what is most important to you and then work from there. I was considering putting space in two other area and leaving this as a guest room. My Mom pointed out that a guest room is used infrequently and if it was too comfortable for long-term guests well they might overstay their welcome!

You'll have to post pictures! I currently have my room in an upstairs bedroom but am in the process of moving it into the basement. We just refinished the ceiling and had more lights installed. This past weekend we painted, put up baseboards and moved in some of the furniture. Being separate is not an issue for me since I don't have small children and certainly don't mind being separate from the rest of the family. I'm actually excited since the space is slightly larger and I'll finally be able to build myself a huge workstation.

No pics just yet. The room gets great natural light, but is dark at night. The electrician is here right now putting up some track lights and so I'm sure I'll be down there tonight testing them out!
