My mother drank Boost and the last week or so she just stopped that and was mostly sleeping. His Hospice nurse can guide you. I'm really sorry that you're going through this. Do you have someone taking care of you? That's important, too.

A few days before my dad died he stopped eating. My mum kept trying to get him to eat ham sandwiches and tea but he just wasn't able. None of my family realised how close he was to dying except for me and my dd so I had a hard time explaining to my mum he didn't need to eat. He actually asked for ice cream and that was the last thing he ate - he told me he enjoyed it the following day and then passed in his sleep that night. My thoughts are with you and your family. I treasure that last week, my kids all got to see him and kiss him saying they loved him (without realising he was going to be gone) and I got to sit and hold his hand.

Feed him anything you eat, just puree it in a blender. I worked in a nursing facility for awhile and the dietician and cook would puree whatever was on the menu, using vegetable, chicken or beef broth to thin it. They even pureed the pizza! The elderly who were on pureed diets loved it. Just don't mix it all up. You don't mix all your food up when you eat. And don't forget dessert! Spaghetti was another favorite pureed. Please skip baby food. Most have NO seasoning and are only a single food pureed with water which equals no taste.

When my mom was in this position, we got her favorite foods. That meant. Chocolate cake, ice cream, sweet stuff. We did not worry about nutrition at all!!

His body is shutting down. Just give him anything he wants. I'm sorry you and your family are going through this transition. It's hard.

Both my Mom and my aunt got to that point, and the one thing they both loved and would eat was homemade applesauce. To this day, I shed a tear or two when I make it, just because of the memories. I'm so sorry about your Dad. If he has only days left, I don't think nutrition really matters. Just give him something that he likes.
