I probably know the answer but thought I would ask.
I'm hosting my 5 DGDs ages 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6 for an American Girl "camp" for 3 nights/days. One of the many activities is to watch the new Grace movie on DVD.
I was thinking of giving one of the girls the movie afterwards. Kind of like a prize. There are 3 families total.
I'm wondering if this might cause hurt feelings? They are taking home an American Girl bag filled with goodies and I am taking them to the AG store for a tea party in the cafe. They will have matching shirts with their dolls all monogrammed. Plus flip flops and bracelets and hair beads. All kinds of stuff.
I don't want to spend another $75 for 3 movies. If I buy one movie I can just keep it although none of the DGDs live in town.
What should I do?

Do you have Amazon Prime or On Demand? Maybe you can just rent it. Cheaper and then you don't have to worry about who gets it. Or check it out from the library?

I would have no problem giving it away as a price to one of the girls. But I would make sure they all felt they had an equal chance of winning it. I would probably avoid quizzes or games because the youngest girls might feel like they never had a chance against the older girls

Keep it. They can watch it whenever they come to your house and it can be a special treat.

Give as a prize for what? How would you decide who gets it?

I would try to keep the movie or stream it. Someone will feel bad, even if it's all fair. I think this will be a wonderful time and I can see the girls watching the movie 10 years from now, talking about their fun AG Camp at Granny's.

I think you'll end up feeling guilty if you give it to one. I'd see about renting it or just keeping it for them to watch when they come over.
ETA: Your party sounds so fun!

I would just keep it. I have seen threads where women are upset at mil because they think kids are treated equally. To avoid hard feelings, I would keep it. But I don't see many complaints about women's own parents. So if they are your daughters kids, I think there is less risk of hurt feelings. But I still say just keep it so you know no one (or no kids) will be upset.
It sounds like a fun time for the kids! My kids loved AG dolls when they were younger. You sound like a fun grandmother!

Give as a prize for what? How would you decide who gets it? I don't know. I know I can't give it to just one girl. Three girls are in the same family and if one of them won it really wouldn't seem fair. I'll just keep it. The movie comes out on DVD the very day camp starts. I'm not sure On Demand would have it but if they did I could just buy it there. It comes out on June 23rd.

That is tricky and a random draw is the only fair way I could see you giving it as a prize but I still think their could be hurt feelings. I'd keep the movie assuming it is too new to get at the library or find streaming online.
It sounds like a fabulous weekend!

I can't wait!! I've been planning and creating stuff for months. The most fun for me will be watching all the different personalities together. It's been 2 years since we were all together. I know there will most likely be some Llama Drama. LOL

I have Fios so I would order it online and watch it that way. I wouldn't buy it outright if there is any other way. If one child is particularly taken with the movie then maybe order it for her and send it to her at a later time.

I would NOT give it to one gd because no matter what, someone will be really upset. I like the idea of you keeping it at your house to be watched i the future. I will say that my kids had a board game, long out of date, that they loved to play at GMAs house when they went to visit. For whatever reason, she decided to give it to her other grandson. My kids were pretty disappointed that when they had game day with GMA that it was no longer there. To make matters worse, GMa let it slip that she was sorry that she gave it to the other because he ended up throwing it away. My kids are all grown now and they still remember this and view it as a favoritism towards their cousin. Bad, bad idea to give it to one.
I do think your hosting an AG party for the granddaughters is awesome and you know they will always remember that. What a fantastic Gma you are.

Your gds will love to know it is there each time they visit... then they will say remember when all my cousins were together n we saw this here... love it

Wow what a fabulous time for your granddaughters!
If you already bought the movie, after watching it, donate it to the library, church, children's hospital. Spread the joy around.

Doubt means don't. (Should be on my "Mottoes to live by" thread)
I wouldn't give it to only one of them. How would you choose which one gets it? How would they "earn" it?
It could only cause hurt feelings and resentment, and turn a lovely memory of time spent with you into bitterness and hurt feelings.

Nope. I think there would be hurt feelings. I would just keep it. If I recall your a teacher or something along those lines? Maybe bring it to work for those kids to watch and keep it there. Donate it to your church kids center of you belong to a church.

why not buy one more copy and one to each family? I would have to buy three and I still have food to buy for this adventure. I saw this on FB: you see something for $7 and think, I could make that. And $92 in craft supplies later........... That is me and this camp.

Have fun! Do a scavenger hunt or some other type of game/games and the winner gets the movie. I would maybe have some smaller gifts available too.

You are an awesome grandma to plan this all out and I am 100% sure the girls will remember it forever. I can totally see them visiting 10 years down the road and re-watching it while reminiscing. Again, what an incredible and sweet thing for you to orchestrate. My grandma did things like this for me, several decades ago, and I still look back fondly. By the way, you just prompted me to call my grandma and thank her for my wonderful childhood memories.
