Thanks everyone. When I first heard the diagnosis a couple of months ago, I didn't think she was going to survive, but the whole family had hopes. By the time she was diagnosed the cancer had metastasized into her lungs, so I knew it was pretty advanced at that stage. She has been on chemo for a couple of months, but she couldn't even tolerate the lowest dose. Death, even when you are expecting it, is a hard blow. We are waiting for the news. Her three children flew in from Central America last evening to be with her, and, even though we want to go to the hospital to say goodbye, we don't want to intrude or take away their final hours with their mom.

I already posted prayers, but I just want to add that it's a terrible disease and I'm so sorry that your family has to join the ranks of those who have to go through this. Praying! Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. Stephanie in TX Stephanie, that is a lovely prayer.

Well, thanks again everyone. She passed away this afternoon. We went to see my Uncle and he is visibly devastated. I'm very sad; I could see how much he adored her. I've never seen this man cry, but he was so choked up he could barely talk. Something struck me though: he didn't talk about how beautiful she was, but the reasons he fell in love with her: the charitable acts she always did, how much faith she had, how hard working, what a good mother, what an honorable person she always was. It struck me because it's times like these when I'm reminded that looks don't matter to people--what matters is who you are, how you treat them, and what you do with your life. If I were to describe her it would be to say that she was an honorable woman.
May she rest in peace.
