I used to enjoy an occasional glass of wine, but haven't had any for a couple of years. Then last week, my DS came home from a party with a partially full bottle of Amaretto di Saronno (someone put it in his bag, and he didn't discover it until the next day.) I loved Amaretto but haven't drunk it in forever. So at my DD's 20th birthday party on Saturday night, DS offered me some. It was wonderful! I had a little glass last night, and plan to have another tonight. It's a slippery slope I'm happy to be on!

I don't drink Amaretto, but I do like an occasional small glass of Drambuie (it's herbal / licorice flavored). And a nice glass of wine goes well with a meal- or without, lol! I don't drink beer (ick!) but do quite enjoy a nice, crisp hard cider from time to time.
Enjoy your old/new-found refreshment!!

I don't drink Amaretto, but I do like an occasional small glass of Drambuie (it's herbal / licorice flavored). I took my kids out for dinner last night, and I had strips of fillet steak pan fried in a sauce of Drambuie, cream, mushrooms and white wine. It was eyerollingly delicious!

A nice glass of whatever you prefer can be a joy It's funny that you haven't enjoyed it for so long though

I rarely drink either. I have maybe one or two drinks a year. It's kind of pitiful in some ways. I would like to enjoy a glass of wine more often, but with my medications it's not a good combo.

This will sound like a terrible idea, but my mother loves it & after trying it, my husband loves it, too ... Try mixing the amaretto with some milk.

It's not that different from a white russian (kahlua/vodka/cream). But I personally would mix that amaretto up with some squirt and have an amaretto sour. Yummy.

I'm totally jealous. I rarely drink anything alcoholic because it so often triggers migraines for me. And there are times, after a particularly rough day, when I wish I could enjoy a relaxing glass of wine.

I'm envious. I'm taking a break from alcohol until our vacation at the end of July to try to take off some more weight. Then it will be cocktails on the oceanfront deck every night.

In my younger days, Amaretto was frequently offered as a substitute when my liquor of choice wasn't available so I think of it fondly even though I don't really like it.

Good for you! I enjoy having a nice glass of wine with my dinner a couple times a week. I just commented on the What's for Dinner thread that I was sad we didn't have a bottle of wine to go with our dinner. LOL One of my co-workers has convinced to go to a Wednesday night trivia at a local bar/restaurant and I've been drinking gin & tonics, lot and lots of extra lime.

Tequila and really cheap vodka remind me of college. I still can't stand the smell or taste of tequila. Also a no-beer drinker here.

About 3 weeks ago I made myself a pitcher of strawberry daiquiri. It had been almost 18 years since I had alcohol. It was good! I'm sure it will take me awhile to finish my bottle of rum.

It must be the time of year for all the seldom drinkers to imbibe. Saturday night after a 16 hour work day I drank half a bottle of premixed margaritas by myself. It had been taunting me for a couple of months but every time I wanted one I had to go to work later. It has been a couple of years since I've drank alcohol. I enjoyed it tremendously but my youngest just sort of rolled his eyes at me. Party pooper.

Maybe you're thinking of Ouzo?

I'm jealous; I've recently developed a real intolerance to alcohol - even one drink makes me as miserable the next day as if I'd had a dozen. I used to enjoy a glass of wine or a margarita on a regular basis, but I think my drinking days might be over.

It almost gives it a cherry coke flavor. YUM!

Scrapbrat, what I taste most when I drink it is the herbs... not the honey (which is good, because as a rule I don't like honey). Their website says one of the ingredients is cloves; maybe that's what I 'read' as sort of licorice flavored?? I'm not great at figuring out flavors in things. I happen to like herbal-flavored liqueurs; another one I enjoy occasionally ( very occasionally, because it can kick you on your butt if you're not careful with it!) is Green Chartreuse, a French liqueur distilled with a secret blend of 130 plants, flowers, and herbs that is a bit 'medicinal' smelling. ETA: Amaretto with coke sounds good-- will have to try that one!

If you like gin with lots of lime you should try a gin gimlet. It is gin with lime juice, so delicious.

On vacation in January I drank a lot of root beer with whipped cream vodka - tasted like a root beer float!

I've been on a clean eating/weight loss/fitness kick for a while, and that included no drinking, but all bets were off for the month of May. What I've discovered is that I'm a total lightweight now and can't handle anything other that Michelob Ultra or cranberry and vodka. My GI system and my head can't seem to handle anything else or else I have a throbbing headache and tummy trouble. So lame.
