Update: Thanks for all of the kind words. DS and I spent a quiet day together. He is frustrated that he can't use his right hand. Tomorrow he sees the hand specialist and I'm hoping he will get a cast that allows a bit more finger movement. My dad is much better today and the infection seems to be controlled. They are going to do his amputation surgery tomorrow morning so we are praying that all goes well. It's so nice to have a place to come and decompress. My husband gives me odd looks when I talk about the peas. I guess you just have to experience this place to really appreciate it! br] I have decided that I'm ready for this week to be over so I can just forget it ever happened!
Yesterday morning my 82 year old dad was scheduled to have all of his toes amputated due to diabetic foot ulcers. This was happening 2.5 hours away so my brother and sister were at the hospital with my mom and dad and I was at work. I got a frantic call from my brother at 10:30 telling me to get on the road up there because dad didn't look like he was going to make it. He was shaking violently and couldn't breathe. I left everything at work and got up there to find him in the ICU with a systemic infection of some type. He was stable and I spent the rest of the day with my family. My mom told me to go back home to be with my family and she would keep me updated. He's doing fine this morning but they still don't know where the infection is and his toe surgery is on hold for now.
Meanwhile, last night, my husband was at the house we are in the process of buying and working with the house inspector. My 9 year old son was at a friend's house playing. On my drive home from up north I get a call from the friend's mom saying that my son had fallen and hurt his wrist. I could hear him crying in the background. So...I call my husband and he leaves the inspection and takes the boy to Urgent Care. Yep...he broke his wrist! so now I have an upset kid who is in pain and can't swim for 4-6 weeks.
And to top this all off, we are short handed at work and I'm taking on responsibilities I usually don't do. I'm home with DS today and I just want to run away and cry.
If you've made it this far, thanks for listening to me whine. I'm going to go snuggle with my boy and watch some mindless daytime TV, escaping from the real world for a while.

That is a lot to deal with all at once!! I hope your dad's doctors and health care team can pinpoint his infection and treat it. And I hope your son's wrist heals quickly... I bet a cast at that age seems like a cool idea until you actually have one. Deep breath! One day... hour... minute at a time. You can do this.

DryPro. Amazing cast covers that allow you to go swimming. I used one on my son a couple of summers ago when he broke his foot and then I had one last summer when I broke my wrist and was casted for the summer, but still needed to be in the water with my kids.

So sorry you're dealing with all this. Go ahead and cry if it makes you feel better. Sometimes we just have to let it out.

It sucks when life decides to dump on you all at once. Hang in there and keep watching for the rainbow after the rain.

I hope things improve quickly for your father and that your son bounces back quickly from his injury. The work thing is just unnecessary stress so I think you should resign and become the princess you were always meant to be!

That is a lot of scary things to deal with at once! I am sorry. Try to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you get a long weekend to enjoy family and friends this weekend.
