I know that we've debated mayonnaise in guacamole, but I did not know that peas were optional! Apparently, The New York Times recommended peas, and The Washington Post is outraged. wapo.st/1BZvTid

It is all over our news here in Texas and we seem to collectively agree as a state that peas in guacamole are an abomination. Considering that Texans rarely form a consensus on anything, this near-unanimous opinion is historic and ACCURATE. Peas have no place in any guacamole. Just...no.

LOL thanks for sharing
I half heard them talking about this on the news, but missed the story. Why can't we just leave guacamole alone? I really don't see adding peas as an improvement and love the bipartisan agreement.

Peas and avocado shouldn't even be on the same buffet table, let alone combined. Will this change the phrase, "We go together like peas and carrots" to "Peas and avocado"? I weep for America.

I'd rather add mayonnaise to guacamole than peas. I do like it in it's simple form, but I think it's weird how some people treat it as sacred and it should never be changed like it's an abomination before God.

Good God!!!! No!!
Just because they are both green, it does not mean that they should be eaten together.
I love both. But omg not together. Gag!

Wut? Bleuch.
Only the British peas will get this, but Peter Mandelson was once at a trendy bash where minute portions of fish and chips were served. He tasted the mushy peas and complained that the guacamole tasted off.

Heck, I don't even really care for guacamole that is completely mashed so I cringe at the thought of adding peas.

If they are tiny baby peas it might be ok. But mature peas - no way. I wonder how Hillery will vote.............

OK. I looked at the article. I get it. It's a gourmet variation on guac. The peas are fresh sweet peas. They are crunchy, not mushy.
The only reason I get this is because while I was in Austin, TX last summer I went to a fabulous gourmet-ish "modern" Mexican place, La Condesa. I do not remember how many kinds of guacamole they had, but there were so many variations to pick from, it made my head spin! We did a guac sampler with several varieties with all sorts of add on flavors and even bits of crunch (I do remember sliced almonds mixed into one). SOOO good!

What's next? Kale? Sprouts? Peanut butter!! I would move to Mexico, if that happened. I just couldn't handle it. The disgrace! I'm not big into politics, and don't discuss it much, but I stand FIRM on how guac. should be made.
