destruction! (sorry ran out of room!)
DH's sister and her family (BIL and 2 dds) are here for the MONTH of July! The whole month!! Yippeee!!!!
They stayed with us from the 1st (well 1:00 am on the 2nd is when they got in) until the 5th. We were away from the 5th to the 13th, and they were there waiting for us when we returned late yesterday! Yay!
When we left on the 5th, we gave them a key ring with ONE KEY on it which locks the back door. They were asked to just lock the back door when they left. Same key for the door knob and the lock above it. But, they couldn't get it to work. So they went to our key rack and grabbed other keys and shoved them in and tried to lock the door and proceeded to break a key off in the door knob. they decided the best course of action was to leave my house unlocked for our entire vacation, but continued to come and go as they pleased (which wasn't part of the original plan. But before they left, they also broke my refrigerator door which will no longer close and so they left that ajar all week, with food in it, that sweltered in the 80 & 90 degree heat and humidity and my house smelled like a thousand dead corpses were in there when I returned.
I love having houseguests!!!

Wtf. Those people would never be allowed unattended in my home again - if allowed in again at all!

and wait, WHY do they need to come for a MONTH? A month is forever. Oh my gosh. I wouldn't be able to survive that at all.

I am sorry. That is awful! I would probably have my DH tell his sister that he and you were upset.

And you gave them a key because why? I would be changing the lock(s). Their behavior would be totally unacceptable.

You poor woman. I can't even imagine dealing with them.

Shoot. Me. Now.
I would be spending the rest of the visit in a very nice hotel with room service and a well-stocked mini bar. Or perhaps in lock-up because I murdered them in their sleep. I wouldn't even try to make bail.

What did your DH say?
I can't even imagine any adults treating your home that way.

Ugh, that is awful.

Were they embarrassed at all? Did they apologize?

You have permission to give them generic brand paper towels for all their hygiene needs for the duration of the time they spend in your house. Absolutely no fluffy or decorative towels for inlaws like these.

Yikes! Unless they were apologetic and offering to pay for the door locks and fridge, those house guests would not be coming back again to my house!

I'm sorry this happened. They would be GONE from my place though. Not that I can imagine anyone in my family or circle of friends doing that in the first place... Some people have no manners or common sense.

Holly hell, the nerve, destroying someone's property and not taking the necessary steps to repair it. Wow, I'd be replacing everything on their dime.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.

OMG! Why the hell are you still allowing them to be there?!!
Tell them that they owe you a new fridge, a week's worth of groceries, and a new lock for the door - and to get the f%ck out!
Seriously, that is no kind of family!
I am so sorry for you.
What does your DH have to say about all this?

Are. You. Kidding?
I'd tell them the house just sold and you need them to help move furniture and pack. That should make them leave. I would be planning their demise!

Are you feeding them too?
