Diet soda and I survived!!!!
At my worst I was drinking 6-7 12 oz cans a day plus a two liter at home at night. I had gotten myself down to an average of 3 a day at work and none at home at night - and only other time I would have it was if we were out running errands or at a restaurant. (I had switched to flavored water like WM's Clear American at home)
I went to a friend's house and she chastised me for my 20 oz. bottle of Diet Cherry Pepsi (even though my LOVE was Coke Zero) and how its all chemicals and poison and blah blah blah...lol. She challenged me that if I could go a whole week without diet soda OR artificial sweeteners (She did give me Stevia) she would take me out to dinner.
That was May 30th. Since then, I had three sips of Diet Coke (just to wash down my popcorn and it was gross) and I've stayed completely away from Nutrasweet and I've only had Splenda on occasion because I'm still going through some bottles of water enhancer that I bought. I've been using them sparingly.
I am shocked that I have lasted so long. I'm even more shocked that I'm drinking seltzer water (when I want some carbonation) and I actually like it! I was so used to the ultra sweetness that I could never drink flavored seltzer because it wasn't sweet enough. I'm loving it now!
I know there are several on here who have quit in the past year and I was always so envious because I didnt' think I could do it myself but I did!!!

Wow - to go from what you drank at your worst to nothing is amazing!
How'd you feel coming off all that caffeine?

You give me hope. Last year I quit Spite (yes, the one with lots of sugar) cold turkey. But life has been stressful lately and I broke. I'm back to drinking way too much.
I'm starting now, I have poured the last of my soda into the sink. Wish me luck.

That's a lot of soda a day. I gave up soda and artificial sweetners 18 months ago. I haven't missed it at all.
So are you going to stay off the soda now ?

Good for you doesn't it feel great. I gave up soda 8 years ago and I lost weight I think because of it.

I am so addicted to Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi! I go to Costco all the time for their fountain drinks (and samples!). I tried seltzer water and didn't like it but I like sparkling water. When I tried to go off diet soda I ate so much junk food. But did you notice a difference in feeling good without the soda? I would love to be able to do that, you should be proud!
Aren't you the pea that has a recipe coming up in Taste of Home? I remember peamailing you last year about it.

Wow - to go from what you drank at your worst to nothing is amazing! How'd you feel coming off all that caffeine? Actually, it didn't bother me at all. I think because I tempered it with the flavored water, that was caffeine free, and I had been buying the 2 liters of CF Coke Zero. But honestly, I don't drink a lot of caffeine other than what was in the soda. I don't drink coffee and I've never had that "caffeine hangover" if I don't have it for a time.

I don't like drinking just water, so the seltzer has been a joy! I would recommend, if you need a boost to keep yourself on track, to find an organic soda and have that once in a while. I do that for a treat, mostly because organic soda is expensive!!

That is awesome! Coming off of that much soda must have been hard. When I went cold turkey, I had terrible headache and the jitters. It's a wonder no one died, lol.

I'm really thinking ahead when I go out (I drink iced tea now with either cane sugar or Stevia) so I don't get caught in the "Oh no, its my only option" excuse and start again...lol. I did get stuck at the movies with my Mom. I didn't want to pay $3 for bottled water so I just took a couple of sips of her diet and I hate Diet Coke anyway so it didn't trigger anything lol. And you'd be surprised at the number of stores that have cold seltzer water available right there with the soda. My current favorite is Canada Dry Triple Berry Seltzer. I just tried some LaCroix that I found at Target. Pricey but delicious!

What a huge accomplishment. I'm w/ you in this ongoing battle. It's been 4 months since I've had a Coke which is a huge accomplishment for me. About 15 years ago I went 3 months before I caved in. Every so often I get the cravings but I just let it pass. I had to learn that even allowing myself one Coke a week is too much for me. I'll eventually go back to drinking a daily Coke which causes bloating in my mid section. Without it my stomach is flat! It's just been water everyday with an occasional glass of Cabernet.

Its like my brain was telling me "what can we eat now?" all the time. I don't get that as much anymore. I think its because I'm cutting so far down on the artificial sweeteners. I am the pea with the recipe that is supposed to be in Taste of Home this year. Haven't gotten the call yet though! I just submitted a new recipe in their Summer Desserts contest - Triple Berry Trifle.

Good for you!
Seriously...I was totally addicted to Dr. Pepper all my life. I gave all sweetened drinks up about 20 years ago and never looked back. I realized I didnt like the sticky sweetness in my mouth.
I drink coffee and tea with no sweetening....and a glass of wine at night if I want. I think the invention of bottled water to go helped me with my change...however I don't buy many now as I use a Tervis tumbler with ice to carry with me..

Yeah for you! I hope you can stick with it. I've never been a super big soda drinker, but I did decide to stop drinking my Diet Cokes a few weeks before Easter. At times I still really crave one, but since I've gone this long I really don't want to give in and drink one. Wish I could say that about chocolate too lol!

Wow you are an inspiration, I´ve gone from drinking 2 two litter diet cokes a day to drinking only 600ml, my issue is that I don´t like tea or fruit juice, I pretty much only drink diet coke and water, and I do feel I´m doing better just a couple of months ago the thought of quitting soda felt simply impossible. Right now I only drink diet coke with my lunch, the rest is water. Hopefully soon I can make the same announcement Thanks for sharing, reading your story makes me feel that it really is possible

I gave up diet coke for new years resolution this year. I felt better and I also noticed that I wasn't hungry all the time. I fell off the wagon a few weeks ago unfortunately. I quickly went from having one every few days and honestly not liking the taste anymore to craving them again and having at least one or two a day. After my second one today I was just standing at the pantry thinking "what can I eat now?" It really messes with your brain! I'm going cold turkey again right now!

Good for you. I gave up sodas when I had braces, back when I was 24. The soda made my teeth feel gross and it was too time consuming to brush my teeth with my braces on. Very rarely I'll have a root beer but never a real soda like Pepsi or 7up. I only drink water. Well coffee in the morning and hot tea in the evenings.

Great job! I gave up soda in April and I feel so much better. And I agree - I felt hungry all the time when I drank soda (for me it was Coke Zero - so addicted!)

That's awesome! I love soda but I don't keep it in the house for that reason. I especially love fountain drinks. I will usually treat myself once a week if I've been exercising or have done something fabulous.

Good for you!
I gave up Diet Pepsi last year and started drinking La Croix for the carbonation. It does taste strange at first because there's no sugar or sweetener but my taste buds adjusted and now any soda tastes too sweet.
My diet soda intake wasn't as much as yours, so I give you a lot of credit for kicking the habit! Congratulations!!

Depending on the day I drink 20-50 oz of Diet Coke. Somedays are better than others - like today I have had 1 can and that's it. I find if I don't have one at lunch, I don't feel the need to have more through out the day. If I grab one before lunch it's downhill from there.
WTG on quiting!!!
