I'm assuming since you are facing foreclosure that you are very far behind on the mortgage. If not, have you looked in financial aid for your school? I had a family and went full time and I got $6000 or so in additional loans to pay for living expenses. We used that money for a year to pay our rent. Since it was a loan, we had to pay it back, but it really helped that year. I don't know if that is an option.

The peas are such an awesome bunch! I've come here at times in the past to ask questions and ease anxiety over issues, but to have so many well wishes from people who have never met you IRL is touching. I love this place and the peas! To answer a few questions, we are in WV. We are in process of trying to get approval through the National Emergency Grant which gives up to $5000.00 to displaced coal miners or their homemakers for retraining for careers considered in demand. I can definitely use that towards nursing school expenses if his previous employer allows us to qualify. I have Pell and some scholarships, so if we get approved in time I might be able use NEG to pay tuition and then I'll get a payout from school of any excess from scholarships which could get us caught up on the mortgage. But its not a fast process unfortunately. I have looked for mortgage assistance, but the only thing I've been able to find so far in our area is HUD directed towards the disabled or programs like Section 8 that pay rent. We are going to check with the Housing Authority tomorrow, but I think what will ultimately cause a problem is the fact that we bought a mobile home, but the land that it is on is owned by my father. Coal was booming at the time and we looked for traditional housing unsuccessfully for a year before we went that route. The fact that it is mobile may make the foreclosure process mover faster than a traditional house, too. Once DH is through his knee issues he is looking into what type of career training or degrees he could that qualify for help with NEG or WIA as well. Right now we are doing a workforce readiness program that has helped with a few costs like my school uniforms and helps with computer skills, etc, but the biggest benefit is access to job openings not listed publicly and there are head hunters and job placement guys that come in each week. I've found that once you start some of these programs and are willing to go through all the red tape, you find others that you never would have known about otherwise. The past year has been hectic and I've had to jump through so many hoops and overcome a lot of obstacles, but there is help out there and hope to pull yourself back up if you are willing to work for it. I know prayer and faith has pulled us through so many tight spots. Thank you to everyone again, your words have really been a comfort tonight.

Prayers for you tonight. My DH has been laid off three times since 2009 in what is considered one of the "better" career industries, and my industry buckled from under my feet as well. (Publishing, not travel. Travel was one of the ways I diversified our income stream.) We have middle-aged, middle-class friends who have had it even worse. The best thing that got them back on their feet was retraining, and I know you are covering that. It's just hard some days to stay positive, but even faking it for your DD boomerangs back to you a bit.
Here's to a tomorrow with a tad less stress than today.

Sending best wishes. Your situation is similar to that of thousands in South Yorkshire.

Sending good thoughts that things start to turn around for your family. I agree with whoever said to be completely upfront with your daughter, at that age, often what they imagine is far worse than the truth.

Prayers for your family. I went through this in 2009. It was very difficult losing my home. It still makes me sad to think about it.

P & PT as requested. You have quite a lot on your plate and I wish you strength.
My husband's family, not too many generations back, were coal people in Wales and we all know how that went. All the very best with your studies too!
