Prednisone ramps me up. I can't sleep and I can't stop moving. My house was never so clean as the last time I took it, and it was for bloody pneumonia!
Sometimes, I feel like I could use a little recreational prednisone.

I take it when my asthma gets bad. It really wasn't a big deal.
Spider bites suck #$%@ . That one I had in the winter hurt and kept growing. Ouch for you. I hope the pred goes right to work for you and that you have relief very soon! Spider bites suck!

Really not a big deal. I have taken it dozens of times. You are taking it very short term and not exactly in sky high doses (this I know because if you were taking high dose steroids, it would not be in the form of prednisone). You will be fine. Exactly. I'd bet most people posting don't even know what a high dose is, as a nurse I've given people 1000mg IV per day (yes, not a typo one thousand mg). Those are the people who go a bit nutty and can't sleep. A couple of years ago I had a disc prolapse and lost some motor function in my leg, at that time I was on 50mg per day for about 3 weeks. I also didn't have any side effects as that is still considered a short term dose. No weight gain, I did have some trouble sleeping, but no doubt that was more likely due to the fact that I was off work and due to my leg not functioning I wasn't able to get around much so I wasn't tired at night because I had very limited activities during the day.
Most people who take it for allergies/reactions etc are on very small doses, 1-5mg generally and at that dosage (unless you have a specific drug sensitivity to pred) you are not going to get any side effects) Even my 6kg cat was on 2.5mg a day recently for an allergy problem....and she still managed to sleep for 23 out of 24hrs!

I have only given it to my very sweet natured sheltie. She turned into a beast. I swear she could scale cabinets like Spiderman looking for food. My vet said it turns dogs into "hangry" creatures. Now the fact that you can eat when you need to eliminates that problem. The medicine works well. Hope you are on the mend quickly. Our sweet Cocker Spaniel is on prednisone- the vet made sure to tell us that he would likely forage for food and pee more frequently. I swear when we feed him he practically tackles his bowl where as before he would let it sit for a while before eating.

It didn't change my cat's behaviour at all in terms of her general personality - but it did affect her eating, she would go and eat when I put the bowl down which she usually doesn't do. But overall she didn't eat any more than normal, just faster.

I just finished 5 days of prednisone for an inner ear problem. They told me to take it in the morning so it would not ruin my sleep. I did not get roid rage but I got the dumb... bad. It also made me hungry. I have been off for a day or two and already feeling back to normal.
