Oh geez. To quote my son, age 26, who is a productive member of society and intolerant of nonsense, " I'm sick of hearing about the confederate flag. Who gives a ______. Get back to work." So if you and your son are sick of the topic, all the people who are not sick of it are supposed to sit down and shut up? If you're not interested, it's nonsense? Wait until it's something you do care about and then apply the same logic. See how you feel about it then. I can tell you, it feels utterly dismissive. Then maybe you will see why the rest of us lose interest in your opinion on the subject. Aw, I know that billions of people have no interest in many of the topics I do. I apologize for my comment in the fact that it made you feel dismissed. Thank you for pointing out the error of my statement. I'd delete it but that's kind of a cowardly way out. Note: The reason he said that the other day was because he was listening to the people in his shop sitting around arguing about it instead of doing what they were supposed to be doing. Later after a 14 hour workday, he got home and said it was on every channel and it was just the same thing over and over and over again. Both sides arguing. At that point he just wanted to relax and watch a little tv that wasn't about that flag. Overload, I guess, with no real solution. Again, sorry. Go back to arguing about the flag. I hope some day everyone can be happy about it.

Rainbow, just out of curiosity, if the giant flag waving from the bed of an employee's truck parked smack in front of the business and clearly visible from the highway said "Keep Abortion Legal," would you still be saying no big deal, move along ... would you still shop at this business? I would move on down the road. I don't agree with the sentiment and everyone has free speech, especially those with opposing views. So, fly it. I'd rather have lively discussion than shut down the other side and try to make them hide it.I think I don't get what you're saying, but okay.

After reading the thread about the nephew's car, I thought I'd ask opinions about this situation. We're also in the North so the flag is not part of our cultural heritage. I live in a small suburb that is considered a bedroom community. An employee at the local Advanced Auto has mounted a huge confederate flag in the bed of his truck and he parks every day so that the flag waves in the wind over the highway. This part of the roadway is the gateway to our town so it's really one of the first things you see as you are driving into the community. It's the topic of discussion on the local politics page and while people have expressed unhappiness about it, the consensus is they just won't shop there anymore. So my question is - would you bother letting the manager know or would you just quietly take your business elsewhere. (This is an academic question for me since I don't shop at Advanced Auto. ) So you're saying that anytime an employee of a store believes differently than you do you are going to complain or go elsewhere? You got one hell of a bad life where the hell do you shop or go?

y
I would call and tell the manager why I am taking my business elsewhere. But that's me.

I just keep trying each day to be a better person than I was the day before. Thank you for accepting my apology.

It's not that big of a deal. You can't force everyone to get rid of every flag you see. Sigh. Move along. Rainbow, just out of curiosity, if the giant flag waving from the bed of an employee's truck parked smack in front of the business and clearly visible from the highway said "Keep Abortion Legal," would you still be saying no big deal, move along ... would you still shop at this business? Yes, I would. Pretty sure Rainbow would too. Frankly, I would probably shop at that store just because I'm fed up with everybody trying to force their beliefs on someone else. The guy has the right to put a flag on his truck and if people want to hold that against the owner of the store so be it. Personally I think they're idiots

And before anyone asks yes I would feel the same way even if it was s Nazi flag. I would think that the owner of the truck is an idiot but it wouldn't stop me from shopping in his automotive store

If that same vehicle was parked at the mall all day, everyday would you stop shopping at every store there until the management co tracked down the employee that owned it? Really, it's time to let this go. The flag has been removed from state and federal property, beyond that it's no ones business what someone else chooses to do. Why do people feel it's there job to make everyone else conform to their way of thinking. What she said. I'm a southerner. I don't fly the flag on my property but I acknowledge that other people have that right. It's called freedom of speech. Not everyone who flies it is a racist. This wouldn't be a blip on my radar.

While I totally agree that Sarah should spend her dollars at businesses of her choice, I do also think that if you really knew the beliefs of ALL the places you chose to shop, and chose to not support those businesses that believe differently than you, your shopping options would be pretty limited.

This is a ridiculous lack of reading comprehension. I brought it up here because I thought it was an interesting discussion point on my local politics page. I have never shopped at this store because I don't need to shop there so I, personally, didn't do anything nor do I have a "hell of a bad life" because I brought the discussion here for the refupeas to talk about.

We all make decision based on our opinions and beliefs. I spent two years not eating at Chick fil A due to the donations to anti-gay groups. I know people who won't shop at places that don't allow concealed weapons. I know people who won't shop at a place that allows weapons. A confederate flag may be a reason that someone does or does not shop at a place. It doesn't mean that soeone has a bad life. I don't know everything about what a store, owner, corporation, or employee believes, but if I know and it goes against my beliefs, I will find alternatives to shopping there. If the Westboro asses owned something, I would never step foot into their shop. If a local store refused service based on sexual orientation, they would no longer get my money (I am sure they would make up for it on the other side, but they are not getting MY money). I believe that everybody has a right to their beliefs and I base my actions toward you or your company based on my beliefs and your beliefs. It doesn't affect my day to day life.
