I wish that Rob Boye would do a tell - all blog post or something. I am fascinated with how that company seems to work.

Scrap booking is a relatively small community. You can only treat people poorly for so long before they catch on. I hate it for Ali...but she should have listened. This is something I really wonder about. On the one hand, I feel like there must be a whole lot of subscribers who don't really do the internet scrapbooking thing because the board really doesn't have that many active members - certainly not enough to support a business that large.
But then I wonder how someone would even know to subscribe to a kit club if they weren't involved in the online scrapbooking community. And so much goes on there where you have to be involved in the community to know what is going on.
Could they possibly have a whole lot of people who just receive a monthly kit and don't really shop for add-ons or use the community? I mean, even though it feels like there are SO many unhappy customers on the boards who are canceling - how many are there really? Maybe they have a huge subscriber base who isn't complaining??
I really do wonder how many kit subscribers they have and how many of them visit their boards compared to how many post on the boards compared to how many don't go to the boards at all. I am still visiting there, but not posting nearly as much. The board is dead compared to when I started there at the end of 2012. The gallery is sooo slow too compared to what it used to be even though it seems to be the best gallery online. (Where is everyone posting and looking now, I wonder?)
I could imagine that people would subscribe and not become active on the boards. IIRC, 2peas said that the "complainers" on the message boards didn't buy much. So maybe they do have a much larger base. However, when products are broken or missing, it doesn't matter if you're on the boards or not. They know something is wrong.

Personally I think April is just plain greedy. I've been a subber with SC on and off for years. I really loved their kits in the beginning. They were jam packed full of awesome papers and everything coordinated so well. Remember when we used to get full packs of Thickers?? Ahhh..those were the days. Even with the minor customer service issues I've had with them over the years, I still hung in there. When the kits started getting thinner and thinner I started to rethink my subscription. The value is simply just not there. When the new subscription/cancellation format rolled out, I knew it was time to get out. I'm not sure what April's goal is here. The recent developments over at SC has led me to believe that she is completely out of touch with her customers. I joined Scraptastic and love their bright and fun kits. Definitely worth the money!

I think there probably is a robust contingent of subscribers who like to be able to say they sub, collect the stuff and don't actually use it much in actual Scrapbooking. I have dozens of friends who used to scrap--still collect but haven't put paper to glue in years.

^^^^THIS! I find most of the DT projects (and even customer posts in the gallery) to be "artistic" (dare I say "elitest?") and not at all about storytelling. I think that's why I was so surprised Ali signed on with them, as she is more about the stories. I find the first few beautiful, then they just get boring.
I got away from SC almost 2 years ago now because the kits were getting thin. No other reason. If the kits were still worth their $ value, I'd probably still sub, but when you add them up, they're just not.
