Looking for some ideas, please, as I go through my stash and cull for a yard sale to benefit the sick husband of a teacher friend. I want to be fair in pricing and packaging but, to be honest, my heart wants as much money as possible for him.
I have embellishments and paper. I made a test bag - 2-gallon Hefty zip bag, 1/2 full of themed embellishments, this one being outdoors/sports stuff. I used the large bag because some of the stuff was tall. I have no idea how to charge.
Should I use smaller bags? I could cut the tall stuff (stickers, cards, etc.) in half to fit.
What has been your experience with this type of thing?
I'd appreciate some thoughts, pea refugees. TIA!

Oh that's hard! I've found at yard sales people really want a good deal. I've done ok at scrappy yard sales at LSS or at craft consignment sales, etc. when I price a little higher, but yard sales are tough.
I think you have the right idea by packing in the big baggies. That's what I do. You could either pack it full and price it at like $5 or pack individual page kits with 5-6 sheets paper and a handful of coordinating embellies and price for $1 a bag. Doing it that way might net more cash as the price point is lower.
I wouldn't use smaller bags. Then just put them all in a milk crate or box and let people flip through them.

Put your self in the buyers position. If you were out at yard sales how much would you spend? No matter what the cause of the yard sale, its still a yard sale. People shopping are not going to care unless its some actual event put on by a charity.
I think your fine with the tall bags, honestly I wouldn't price the bag more than $3 Your paper you can probably get away with $5 bags.
Good luck, and its really nice what you are doing to help. I hope they raise lots of money.

I do like the kitting idea Alissa suggested. that may be the smarter way to go.

I have done kits and bags of just paper. I priced at 3.00 per bag or 2 for 5.00. Got rid of most of what I had.

I agree about kitting it up with paper and a few embellishments. Try to price it lower but have more bags to sell. Good luck.

Good luck for a great cause. I agree most people don't want to pay more than $2 or $3 at a yard sale so mini kits sound like a great idea.

Thanks, Peas! I packaged fewer items in larger bags. Put $2 and $3 on each bag. All in a cardboard office box. Done. Feels good to destash a bit, too. Appreciate all the ideas and thoughts!

My scrappy friends and I had a scrappy rummage sale 3 weeks ago, and I made over $1200. I priced most things 25-30% of retail. There were a few *special* things I sold for more---punches, dies, a few tools. I did not bag most stuff---people want to pick individual things in case they think they will not use the rest. I culled thru all the individual 12x12 paper I had, and I wrapped 10 sheets in saran wrap (top left open about 3 inches so people could thumb through and see that what in the pack) for $2.00. I sold alot of that. Storage containers of all kinds were super popular. Dies, punches, tools flew out of there. What did not sell well were stamps, especially wood stamps.

TBH, I've never had much luck getting more than a dollar for any size bag/box of paper crafting stuff at a yard sale. (It's for that reason that I no longer try and just donate it to the school.) I hope you have better luck!
Then again, I've never made $1200 at any sale, even when I was selling all my baby stuff much of which was in like new condition. Maybe people here are just realllllly cheap!

I used the 2 gallon size bags and put in about 1 inch of paper and some embellishments and sold them for $5 each. I had 15 of those and they all sold. I was amazed and was ready to drop the price if need be!
ETA - I did advertise on all the local Facebook Yard sale/Garage sale pages and that helped!

If you have PL kits and you pull 1/4 of the cards out those sell like hot cakes!
