I was one that approved! My husband would have loved a gift like that. Men I know love that sentimental stuff, so I bet he and his wife will treasure this wonderful gift!

I just love your design. They are sooooo lucky to be receiving such a beautiful quilt. I've never understood the people who wouldn't want one.

It sounds like at least you did some homework to figure out the recipient's style and tastes. I received a crochet blanket that was dark brown and black with some orange accent (in 1994 not 1970's). I strongly dislike all those colors (and my DH didn't have favorite colors so this wasn't made for him in mind). I felt bad and guilty that I couldn't "like" and "enjoy" the gift more. Sounds like you got a car blankie.

Great job! I love that it is reversible! I agree! And if 50% disagreed, 50% were all for it. Personally, I really like the groom's side.

Homemade "stuff" like quilts, oven mitts, etc. mean a lot to me. I really love the quilt you lovingly made for them. I am very sentimental that way.

I was in the pro camp and I absolutely love this quilt. If the bride doesn't appreciate it, she's insane. The reversibility is genius and your free motion quilting is amazing!

It's beautiful, especially the bride's side and all that quilting! I don't recall the quilt debate, but I personally love quilts. My grandmother was a prolific quilter - all hand stitched, many of the fabrics recycled from clothing. Everyone in our family has received a lovingly created quilt from her, and I only know of one person that hasn't cherished theirs (it's on the floor and the dogs have destroyed it). Now that grandma is gone, the quilts mean even more to me. My grandmother handmade quilts as well - hand cut, hand pieced and sewed and hand quilted. She made over 50 in her lifetime. Each of her 5 kids have 2 each and each of her 7 grandchildren have 1 each. The grandchildren got them when they got married. I think it's a perfect wedding gift.

Reversible is a great idea. Yes it's not always easy to give a homemade gift, colours/tastes/styles are hard to please. If you like it you will treasure it forever. But if it's not your taste you will feel guilty you don't enjoy it more. I know someone who has a brown and orange doily someone special made them back in the 70s and it's out of style now and they feel bad they can't display it. At least an afghan or quilt could always be on the bed even if under a coverlet. You'd still get to use it and sort of see it even when it goes out of style one day.

I would cherish a handmade quilt no matter what the style, just because of the thought and time and effort that went into it. I got a handmade quilt as a wedding present and while not necessarily my colors/style, I LOVED the sentiment behind it!
I don't get the peas that don't appreciate handmade gifts like that. Seems so ungrateful.

I love it. on my bed is the quilt my dh's grandma made for us for our wedding in 1983. a little faded...red, white and blue and not exactly our style..but it was made with love in every stitch.
