Toronto Police Services and the CBC (Chris' employer) are very tight-lipped about this. The last pictures of Steven & Chris were taken late last week, while they were on vacation in Barbados.

He was such a character. Balanced out Steven nicely.

I was sad to hear about this too. They found him in an alley below his apartment balcony and said it was a personal matter

It was on the news here today ... I really enjoyed his personality I wonder what happened that he ended up dead in the alley below his apartment? Very sad I enjoyed them a lot, especially when Steven and Chiris had the show Designer Guys. Loved that show and loved them. They also had a lovely line of interior design products. If I had my way, our house would have had one of their ceiling lights above our kitchen table. Those last pictures posted to the IG account was only made Aug 2nd & 3rd, so finding out he passed when he did is shocking. The police are being tight lipped about it, but there are unconfirmed reports it is the alley beside his building. Some people are speculating suicide. I'm also reading unconfirmed reports that they found him wrapped in a tarp, but I find that hard to believe. It's tragic all the way around.

There's a lot of speculation flying around and a lot of it is not pleasant.
I know a few people that worked on the show with them. Everyone is shattered. It was not a good day at the CBC yesterday. It hasn't been a good year for the crews of shows at the CBC. Everyone's got a "what's next" attitude right now. It's really sad.

Oh no, very sad! It's like someone said, he balanced Steven very well. Is the speculation that Steven may have been involved? That would be awful. He was so young.

This really shocked me. I would assume its suicide because they haven't called it criminal (yet?). This is a crazy world either way, very sad.

On CTV News Toronto, they said that the autopsy was complete and that the results were not going to be made public.

The news they aren't going to release the autopsy results leads me to think it must be natural causes. But he wasn't murdered. He didn't commit suicide. So if those two things didn't happen then what is left? Maybe he just had a heart attack or a stroke? He wasn't very old so that is odd but not impossible. I hope he didn't have AIDS or something like that. (I don't even want to write it, but it isn't impossible). I will just go on thinking he had a heart attack and know he was loved by his DH and the rest of the world

You just never know. A doctor we know locally died while running last Saturday, of a heart attack, presumably, he was in perfect health. He was 59, so only 10 years older. Just a lesson to live life to the fullest, I guess.

Or what you meant by "something like that"... Perhaps you could clarify - it would be too easy for people reading your comment to wonder if you mentioned AIDS because he was gay...

Wow, the sleep walking is a reasonable explanation from his mother. That is so tragic. May he rest in peace, and prayers for his loved ones.

Sounds like she's falling back on the AIDS in the gay community stereotype. It's rather infuriating to read. The people I know that knew him would be furious to hear such backasswardness. I'm furious that such a stereotype would be perpetuated in this tragic event. I need to leave this post before I say something I'll regret.

If that's the case, it's tragic. It terrifies me; my son occasionally sleepwalks and once while camping, we caught him as he was heading towards a lakeside cliff. You can't imagine something like that could actually happen but it's very plausible.

You can't imagine something like that could actually happen but it's very plausible. I'm another one with a sleepwalking child and that scares me. He's fine when he's at home because we have a perimeter alarm but he's currently at my inlaws, sleeping in their camper, and wandering back and forth between it and the house without any memory of it.

No, the police covered him with a tarp after finding him. Someone was video taping him laying there on a cell phone when they arrived so they covered him up with the tarp and asked the cell phone user to delete the video. Then the cell phone video was filmed after the tarp was on top of him.
I'd buy the sleepwalking thing if his mom hadn't have said this very ODD quote today "“He was the most incredible human being and best son you could ever have. I think his light was so bright it just … it just burned out.”
It sounds really strange to me the way she worded that. Almost like she's covering up what really happened with the plausible sleepwalk story. They lived on the top of the building six floors from the ground, if he had a condition like that, would you not think they'd have alarms on the balcony doors. The balcony did have (from what photos were shown of it on their instagram) a mid sized railing but nothing huge either. Seems strange if he was a chronic sleepwalker they'd have more than that in place.
My son sleepwalks but thankfully he's never ever left the house.

I think sometimes people get used certain behaviours/symptoms, and don't think that their symptoms will look any other way... If he's been sleepwalking for 45+ years, and has never left a house or climbed over something, then you joke about how you find a carton of milk in the cupboard or that the dogs bowl is overflowing...
He didn't fall from the balcony, he fell from the terrace... It too has railings, but if he chose to climb over one for some reason, there'd be no way to have an alarm for that... Sleepwalkers aren't always zombie-like... The two that I know can do complex things and often show a certain amount of rationale in what they do... Things like trying to clear snow with the lawnmower instead of the snowblower while wearing slippers, bathrobe, parka, and winter gloves...
The phrase didn't really strike me as odd... Took it to mean that something that special doesn'/can't last, so full of life to the end - like a lightbulb that just goes out suddenly...
Ugh... Was really hoping to hear a clarification on the AIDS/alley comment...
