because the customer is supposed to peel it off and present it to the cashier are my irritant of the day.
Because the sticker/$2 off was the reason that I chose the item, but found out when I got to my next destination that I hadn't peeled it, and neither did the cashier.
I guess they're so bar-code focused that they don't notice?

Next time you go to the store bring it in with your receipt. I know my grocery store would give me the $$ back, or I should say they did the one time I forgot and actually remembered to go back with it. Can't hurt to try.
I know when I ever have those I have the coupon half peeled off so that they hopefully see it. Hard when you have a cartful of stuff though to watch them too

I hate this. My family just had a discussion about it this weekend and it seems like everyone has this same problem. It is very frustrating.

I have a container of kitty litter in my garage with the $2 off sticker still on it. I makes me angry every time I walk by. LOL

I thought that as the customer, it was my responsibility to remove the sticker and put it on the jar cap or somewhere it would be noticed.

As a cashier, I try to look out for those stickers but they are so SO easy to miss! I appreciate customers who hand the coupon to me during the transaction.

I thought that as the customer, it was my responsibility to remove the sticker and put it on the jar cap or somewhere it would be noticed. It is! And I only had 3 items. It was strictly me being flakey. Sometimes an alert cashier has noticed and pulled the sticker off for me. Bless their hearts!

The one store where I do most of my grocery shopping has some tags that say the cashier is supposed to take them off (usually meat).
I never know what reaction I'm going to get when I point them out.

I don't think that's the cashier's job.
It's your job to present your coupons. It is not the cashier's job to look for them.

You do know that if I say that some cashiers were extremely rude someone here might rip my head off saying that I should feel sorry for them because I don't know what personal problems, how underpaid or how many rude customers came before me. But, because I like you sharlag, I'll do it. One cashier said, "I know. I'm not stupid." She is frequently rude and I avoid her line when other lines are open. Sometimes when it is early morning or late at night there is only one line open. Another tried to say that they were not real coupons. The store attaches them when they overbought/undersold a product and they are getting close to the expiration date. At $1 a pound for fresh sausage I was more than willing to wait for a supervisor to come over. No apology from the cashier for acting like I was trying to scam them.

At my store they do the coupons at the end so I just have them in my hot little hand and pass them over at the right time and guess what they never miss even one of them.

I always peel them off and put them with my other coupons when I take the product off the shelf. If I do miss one I use it the next time I buy that product.

Well, I usually remember to peel them off but typically manage to get them stuck to something else along the way. I either find them stuck to the back of my list or part of my anatomy when I get home.

I have a couple of favorite cashiers since I only go to one store. They always peel my coupons off if I forget.

I have forgotten to peel one off and it make me so mad at myself, because that is usually why I picked up that product in the first place.
I throw it away at home. I don't want a reminder.

The one store where I do most of my grocery shopping has some tags that say the cashier is supposed to take them off (usually meat). I never know what reaction I'm going to get when I point them out. And different stores want things done differently. We shopped at the commissary for many years. They always wanted the coupons in a pile at the front of your order. So I got used to doing that. But different stores want them at the back, or you to hold them, or . . .

I have hardly ever had a cashier notice these. They are probably only 1/2 paying attention anyway.(mostly the younger ones who are chatting with the person bagging the groceries).

I peel them off immediately and put them with my credit card. Most of the time it works.

The cashiers at my Publix are generally pretty good about noticing the peel off stickers. And if they forget, the will refund the money up to a certain point, then after that you just have to go to customer service and they will do it there. Reason 842 for why I adore my Publix.

Dh recently came home with 2 items with the $2 coupons still attached to each. Grrr. If I didn't hate grocery shopping so freaking much, I would fire him. He is not a good couponer at all, lol.

You can use the coupons the next time you buy the item if it is something you buy on a regular basis.
I don't think it is the cashiers job to notice them, but I do appreciate it when they do.

Because I already have an envelope with coupons in it that I plan on using, if I come across an item with a stick on one, I peel it off and add it to my envelope and put the item in my cart. Then I just give the cashier all of the coupons at once.

Not that it matters- no ones slamming anyone here, but... It's the last sentence in OP about how they would notice if they weren't bar code focused. Not big leap to conclusion it's cashier's responsibility. I've never had a cashier remove them, so you'd think I'd be more focused! I've been lured into buying extras in order to save with the coupon, and walked out of store with it stuck to my keys. Some days you can't help the preoccupied!

as a cashier I can say to please not hold this against the cashier(not saying anyone has) but with thousands of items in the store, sales that change weekly, stock that gets brought in nightly its impossible for us to know exactly what items have a coupon on them, and yes our focus is to get the barcode scanned and get the customer out as smoothly and quickly as possible--most places the cashiers are timed, whether or not any focus is placed on it, most registers have timers in the per transaction, at my store nothing is said of our individual times(not anymore anyway they used to be posted in the conference room weekly) but we are encouraged to be quick and can print off a slip that tells our time.
now, I feel like I do pretty good at getting them, but granted dont know about the ones I missed.. BUT at my store if you were to bring the coupon in with you and talk to management about what happened they will give you the face value of the coupon(doubled if its .50 or less).. and yes every bit does indeed add up.
as a shopper it bugs me as well to get home and see a missed coupon, have one on my fridge now from the cat litter.
