Costco parking lot. Came out with my groceries to find a cart pressed up against my car. I pulled the cart away, and crap! The whole side is dented!
I hate people!!
First world problem, I know, but this is the first time I've had a new car in 18 years.

We decided to try out leasing (we love). First brand new car. I worked next to a bar that had street only parking. Ding ding ding. One time I was still in the car!! I kinda chewed the lady out. Just because one doesn't take care of their car doesn't mean you can bang up someone else's.

What is your car made of that a stray shopping cart can dent the whole side?

What is your car made of that a stray shopping cart can dent the whole side? It's made of whatever Toyota makes cars out of. Apparently, shopping carts, when they hit a Toyota full on, can dent the whole side. FFS, do you want a demonstration?

I certainly wouldn't feel very safe driving around in such a flimsy vehicle, that's for sure. Me thinks thou dost exaggerate a bit.

That stinks. I park as far away as possible from other cars and walk, just because I know that some people don't put their carts away.. I have noticed that more folks seem to be returning carts, but there's always someone who doesn't.

Sorry that happened to you. I think anyone would be upset. I always walk the cart back to the store entrance or cart corral whichever is closer. You would think all members of a civilized society would do the same but some people have no social graces and if you call them out you become the problem.
Not long ago, I was grocery shopping, a woman dropped a head of broccoli on the floor, pickled it up and put it back and selected a fresh head for herself. I walked over and said, excuse me but why would you put that back after *you* dropped it on the floor? I don't want to buy that now and neither does the person who had no idea it was on the floor. The dumbbell says to me well what should I do with it (in a nasty tone). I replied take it over to the store employee over there and tell them you dropped and and they will be happy to dispose it for you.

That stinks!
The day before I bought my dad's car, a lady opened her car door into the side of it when he was pulling into a parking space. So my "new" car came with a dented side. This was in February. Sometime in May/June, the dent popped out all by itself! I'm guessing it was the heat? Anyway, hope yours can "pop out" too.

Me thinks thou dost exaggerate a bit. it doesn't mean it's "flimsy". in high school I had an '88 ford f150, which I took mudrunning and hauled hay and all sorts of things with nary a ding. one day my friend got out and hit the outside of the door with her hip to close it. it must've been *just* in the right spot according to the door panel shaping, because it did literally cave in the door. from a couple inches below the plastic trim piece, up to the next body line about 4" below the window. thankfully it pulled out fairly well, but the trim piece was forever crimped.
TL;DR: all door panels are mostly hollow sheet metal and it just takes a bump in the right spot to make some decent damage. plus Costco carts are huge and heavy!

If the sale of your car was not a hail sale, I would have had them pop it out. The day I went to pick up my Moata, they told me to make sure all was well. I noticed a small dent in the side, and they took it back and had it repaired. I was not taking a brand new car home with a dent in it.

There can be a lot of factors resulting in different levels of damage. I had a car damaged by one of those really light plastic Target carts. It was a super windy day and the darn thing hit my front fender with one of its corners. I had a deep crease from the top to the bottom that would never pop out. I was so mad because I was a single gal at the time barely getting by and couldn't afford to fix it. Target wasn't responsible and the person who left out the cart was long gone. I was SO mad!
I'm sorry your car was damaged and I hope it isn't expensive to fix!

blue tulip, I get what you are saying, but was the "whole side" of your truck dented? Not likely.

I've seen Groupons for pulling out dents.
Also our local dealership has a guy come around and I think he has a business called Dent Wizard or something that pulls dents. I think that would be easy to pull and not be like a whole ya know body damage remodel, ya know what I'm trying to say.
My dh goes up to his buddy and he does it so I know its possible just do have it pulled out.
No sense in driving around in a new car with the dent when it can be easily fixed. Look it up online near you. I bet it wouldn't cost that much either.
But for me, it's the frustration of it and having to look at it, especially when you didn't cause the damage, I know. It sucks. Sorry it happened. But I hope you can get it fixed.

blue tulip, I get what you are saying, but was the "whole side" of your truck dented? Not likely. But here's the thing...why do YOU care? She came here to vent, and you don't know exactly what that cart did. Costco carts are pretty sturdy, and I think it could do a lot of damage to a smaller car, like a Corolla or Camry. So why even question it? Just take it a face value and move on. Why does the OP have to *prove* to you what her damage is?

PTAmom, check with your ins company for a shop that does PDR, paintless dent repair. The ins co will recommend a place for you, unless you want the whole side replaced at your cost! Ins will probably pay for PDR but that is it.
If you are comfortable telling me what area you are in I might be able to recommend a shop for you.

My brother used his butt to nudge my door closed when it didn't close all the way. He made a big dent.

I feel your pain!
Friends of ours had parked next to us in a parking lot. She opened her door and the wind grabbed it and threw their door on to the side of our vehicle.
She felt terrible, but my DH told her not to worry about it as in the grand scheme of life, its just stuff.. She offered to pay for it, but we didn't accept.
I hate seeing the dent, but I don't hold against our friends.
A little different than your story but none the less, a dent that no one wants.

If it's just a dent, go to harbor freight and get one of those suction cup dent puller thingys. Stick it on an pull the dent out. Or if you have duct tape, put a few long strands around the dent, grab them like a pony tail and pull the dent out. Easy peasy.

blue tulip, I get what you are saying, but was the "whole side" of your truck dented? Not likely. I came out of a toy store a couple of years ago with a cart. Put the cart next to my car, opened the trunk, and got busy shifting suff around to fit my purchases in. Turned back around, and my cart was heading toward a parked car. There was a slight slope to the lot and the cart had picked up a surprising amount of speed. I ran after it but could not catch up before it slammed into the car. I could not believe the size of the dent it made. Cost me several hundred bucks. This was a average sized plastic cart. Those Costco carts are huge, heavy, metal carts. I don't think she's exaggerating. OP, very sorry that happened to you.
