I'm at the other end. I work in the main office in a middle school. We have close to 1400 kids. I field waiting list calls because I know the registrar gets far more of them than I do. My main one is "Can I get a copy of my schedule?". We also do fee waivers and I hear some really sad stories and also some pretty lame ones from parents who are trying to work the system. And at the end of the year I get yelled at by all the parents who didn't buy their kids a yearbook and are ticked because their kid didn't win the lottery for one of the extras. It's always something fun but I love my job! Today I had a little eighth grader come in who was one of my students when she was in second grade and I was a reading teacher.

Oh my gosh, the two ladies that work at my elementary school's front office are just amazing. Most of the time it is water off a duck's back. Parents are crazy sometimes. What I love the most is when school is in session and the phone is ringing and parents are all lined up to check their kids out 15 minutes early (every day) so they can avoid the traffic and the kiddos from our Level 4 program come up for whatever reason. These are the kids with severe needs (physical). When they walk or are wheeled into the front office it is like the Queen herself has arrived. Each kiddo is greeted and fawned over and they get what they need. Then the office returns to its normal craziness. These ladies are just heaven sent. Our schools do not allow early check outs within 20 minutes of school ending. It is a God-send! Ours is 30 min. And I love that. I don't work at the school but my mom did and she said it was very frustrating as a teacher to be getting ready to dismiss and have to pack up a little one and get them to the office right before dismissal.

Thanks for sharing your stories... I would say a lot of people think our principal is a bitch as well. But holy hell you would almost have to be. I would HATE that position. You got people coming at you at all directions.. parents, teachers, other staff, (in our case) Board of Directors, construction people (we are expanding)... You couldn't pay me enough to be in that position in a million years. Our principal seemed like a nice person to the parents -- and she won a state principal of the year award. It wasn't until I was behind the scenes that I saw what a nasty person she was. Vulgar and rude and mean to everyone in the office. I couldn't believe her potty mouth in the office. She really was a mean bitch.

I am one of those people who firmly believe that however much you make to work in a school, it's not nearly enough. My son, for various reasons, had to switch classes twice. One was legit, and I had to email the principal and guidance counselor a couple times. Got it done and then had to do it AGAIN. I told my DS, you're making ME look like a crazy helicopter parent and I don't like that. So where he is now is done, and in stone, and I emailed them both to say thank you very very much, and unless you need me, I will not darken your door for the rest of the year. I volunteered at the middle school when my DD was there, and holy cow, never again. It's madness.
