Well, good luck with that. The last time I hid something, it was 20 months later before I found it again! What was it you bought? We can suggest places to look if we know how big it is!

Good luck with that. I usually find my "safe place" stuff months after I needed it.

In your underwear drawer.
On the shelf above the washer and dryer.
Beside the ink refills and extra ream of paper.

Do you keep a collection of takeout menus? Or do you have your own craft stash? That drawer in the kitchen?

If you change out handbags for summer, did you leave the stickers in the one you aren't using? Shoebox in your closet? With the college paperwork? In a drawer in a bedside table?

I have no advice. Just glad it isn't just me who does this! We are cleaning out for an overseas move and I finally found the baby gift I bought someone. The child is now 5. 5!!

My only advice is that it'll be in the last place you look.

In the box of greeting cards you keep on hand?
In the drawer of your desk?
In the drawer with passports, birth certificates, etc?

After doing this very thing one too many times I devised a plan I now stick with. Whenever I put something away for safe keeping I make a note on my phone or wall calendar (depending on if it's a secret or not) for the month I will need it of where I put it. So if it's a Christmas thing I add a note to Dec 1st reminding me (a) that I have it and (b) where I put it. Works like a charm. Doesn't help you this time but it could in the future.

My advice is to check the places you have already checked. Anytime I can't find something it seems I just looked to fast it it was in one of the places I had previously checked.

I hid a craft knife somewhere in this house in early 1983 when we had just moved in. My son was 18 mos at the time and really into everything. I was scared he'd hurt himself if he got his hands on it. He's 34 now and that damned Xacto knife has never reappeared. Better luck to you.

I shall be doing this from now on, thanks. I have been known to buy things throughout the year for Christmas and birthdays, hide them, forget they are there and go and buy the exact same thing nearer the time.

Maybe you put them in a book so they would stay flat.

We recently were looking for one of my nephews favorite stuffed animals. We looked everywhere. Behind the couch, under the couch, under the bed, in the huge pile of other stuffed animals, the luggage he used to go to his dads house, we pulled everything apart. The same thing happened at his dads house a state away. No luck. Then one day it was sitting in the middle of his room with his Legos. My sister swears it's alive because there is no way she missed it sitting in the middle of the room.

While you're looking for that could you please tell me where the flannel sheets (brand new) are? I purchased them back in early 2000!

For example, we bought tickets to Kinky Boots next month -- but bought them last year in a Cyber Monday sale that the performing arts center was having. I put them in a cubby in my desk when they arrived but made sure to note it in my planner so I wouldn't forget where I put them. In the case of the missing stickers, here's three ideas: - where do you normally hide gifts?
- where do you keep important paperwork?
- do you ever hide things in your underwear drawer?

Been there done that, as they say. Last year I bought my ds the extended version of the latest Hobbit movie. The only place it was being sold was Walmart and we don't have one particularly convenient to us here. So when I went to pick up dd for Thanksgiving I went to Walmart there and bought it. There were two copies left, I got one. Bought a bunch of other stuff, came home. Fast forward to a few weeks later and I'm trying to wrap presents. Do you think I could find that dvd?? Nope. All the rest of the stuff I'd bought had been distributed around -- kitchen, bathroom, dd's dorm, whatever. So there was no leftover bag with that dvd in my closet. I ranted around the house, even accused the cashier of forgetting to give me that bag (you know how Walmart does the bag carousel thing...seems like it would be easy to forget something.) Then, a few hours later I suddenly had this vague feeling that I remembered taking the dvd out of the bag and tucking it somewhere, just in case ds decided to snoop. I tore the closet apart, looking on the floor, up top, inside the laundry basket, etc. FINALLY found it tucked into my tee-shirts in the back. You know, tee-shirts that I wasn't wearing because it was winter. omg... Anyway, about those stickers... how about in bureau drawers stuck between clothes. You'd have to go through every single item since a thin sticker sheet could hide well. Or how about between sheets or towels in the linen closet? For me though, I'd start in the bedroom, and then in the craft area. Did you buy anything else at the same time? Whatever the other stuff was -- maybe craft stuff, or office supplies? -- look wherever you store that type of thing.

I went through a paranoid phase and before going on vacation one time I hid all my good jewelry. And then, apparently, had such a lovely (read: less than sober) time that I forgot where I hid it. It took me three years before I found the box I had put them in. And most recently? My mom had a really pretty cameo set that was my grandmother's mother's. She had it professionally cleaned, had the earrings redone from screw backs to pierced, replaced the chain for the necklace and then gave it to me. I put them some where and for the life of me I can't them. It's been at least a year and I just can't bring myself to tell her. I know they are in my house somewhere, but the where eludes me.

I am sure they are in that "safe" place like the two chambray tops/tunics that I bought in the spring and can not find. I have a feeling thought that mine ended up in the donation pile and got donated. It drives me crazy because I am not one to lose things.

I hVe done this so many times. Whenever I can't find something it is because I have put it in a "safe place." You'd think I would have learned by now!

If you are going to reorder them maybe have them sent to her at school. Then it would be a nice surprise from home.
I do this all the time.... I am looking now for a photo of my daughter that I just purchased a frame for. I know I stuck it somewhere it wouldn't get bent when I moved my office.
Good luck.

I can relate! DD's birthday was last week, and one of the little gifts she received is something I purchased last fall for Christmas. Um, at least it stayed safe!

I just found a birthday card I got for a friend in 2010. I bought in NYC and it had a picture of her dog's breed on it. She put the dog down about a month before her birthday. Bad timing. I need to do the note on the calendar thing. Note to self, I need to get a calendar.
