Krispy Kreme donuts has finally opened a shop in South Australia. Two teenagers went to the store late last night to buy their stash and as they got in their car, a knife wielding thief stole their donuts - 6 boxes! Didn't want their money - just the donuts.
I know they're the best, but really - stealing them!!

I have eaten them before, and I know this is NOT a popular opinion, but does anyone also find them "too sweet"? I love my sweet food don't get me wrong, and I have a larger than should be a$$ for someone 5' tall but they are just too sweet. Maybe with strong, bitter coffee they would be perfect?

The taste and texture is ALL WRONG. We're Dunkin Donuts Fans.

Neither of us will go out of our way for Krispy Kreme I hope the victims are ok, that is an odd crime.

We like them, but they ARE sweet. I think of them more as dessert than breakfast.

Well at 2 am when you are on a date with someone you are madly in love with, and this is the first time you have ever ever ever in your whole life ever eaten them you want to make them to be the best thing you have ever eaten.
Yeah they were hot...but so sweet!
I like Tim Horton's donuts better. But if I were in the South my opinion might change. We had them in Savannah. Yes it was a really great date too!

I live in a part of Victoria called Gordon Head. In the little part called Gordon Head where we are located a mile up the road (aka 2 miles but who is counting right?) we have our own Tim Horton's. Not only is it great, it is also a DRIVE THROUGH!!! Yes, I am hungry, it's 3 am, and I want an unglazed old fashioned, guess where I go? Saturday morning when I was more tired than dirt? Tim Horton's. Yup without fail.
It is hard being that close...well no it isn't but when I want an IceCap on a hot summer day, drive through saves me!

I remember when the first KK opened in Australia in Sydney, one of my colleagues bought a box at Sydney airport and brought them down to Melbourne when he came down for a meeting. We loved them, and they weren't even hot. Then when the first store opened in Melbourne, the line to get fresh hot donuts went for MILES!
Yes they are great, but not something I'd steal at knifepoint LOL!
I just had a look to see where the Adelaide store is. It's in West Croydon. Our Adelaide branch is in Port Rd West Croydon, I'll have to ask my SA colleagues if they've been there yet.

Hmmmm. I can't think of any food I'd accost someone at knifepoint for. Well, unless I was pregnant.

Gack, bet that's the last time those thieves ever eat Krispy Cream doughnuts. Why not just pour a pound of sugar down your throat?

That is crazy! Stealing donuts? We don't have a KK here but there is one on Maui and sometimes Costco will fly some over that you can buy by the dozen. It's kind of odd that Maui has one and Oahu doesn't.

I live in Adelaide and we have been waiting for Krispy Kreme to open up here for ages. Every time we travel to Sydney there are always lots of people carrying back boxes of donuts.
This store was in the news because they had to close the drive through as there were LINES of people all down the main road and it was too dangerous to let cars in. Apparently it was a 2 hr wait!!! Just to let you know how crazy people are here for these donuts, 2 teenagers started lining up 2 days before the opening in order to be the first customers. Krispy Kreme offered a year, 6 months and 3 months supply to the first 3 customers. Considering we are in the middle of winter and the temperature is about 4 degrees these boys were keen.
I don't understand the mad rush. It's a 24 hr drive through and it's not closing down anytime soon. And full disclaimer here - I don't eat them, but our kids do.
It's certainly not funny that people were held up at knifepoint but it is very strange that they just wanted the donuts. I'd like to know how they made a quick getaway - carrying 6 boxes??? Corinne

Corinne I would have liked to see that getaway too - carrying one box of Krispy Kremes is not easy so grabbing six and getting away with them without them all ending up on the floor is mind boggling!! Am quite pleased we have a KK drive through quite near to us just in case this gets into the news here and we get copycats!!

Too sweet.
And once they started selling them in grocery stores, many of the shops closed. I had three within four miles. All gone. Part of their attraction was catching the neon donut sign indicating fresh ones. They are best fresh and hot.
Ok to try. Not long term desire.
Certainly not worth stealing.

when the first one opened here it was the same thing... big hoopla, media and line ups around the block. they are pretty sweet and not something i would eat frequently. once dh bought a box, i ate one and it was really good so i ate another one right after. gross. i have had some pretty wicked food cravings but never had to resort to knifepoint robbery!! glad no one was hurt in their crime spree.

There has been a long standing divide between Krispy Kremers and Dunkin Donuters. It was previously more of a regional thing; i.e., the North loves DD and the South loves KK. All that changed when KK opened their first store in Manhattan; just in time for me, a displaced Southerner in NYC, to enjoy during my pregnancy. I had to take two different subway lines to get there, but it was soooooo worth it. Even better: they were located across the street from a movie theater.

That is so unreal. Seriously, armed robbery for donuts? Even KK! that is horrible.
That said, we love KK here. I like DD, as well, but Tim Horton's are not even in the same universe as far as I am concerned. They advertise "always fresh", but where I live they are frozen and thawed, I think. They taste stale. And I live just 15 minutes from the Canadian Border. I think I need to try them from an actual Canadian store again (it's been years) to see if those are any better than ours.

I could live on Krispy Kreme doughnuts! I would never steal them at knife point but I have looked at their delivery trucks and thought about stealing them! LOL!! My car has a mind of it's own when I see the HOT sign on, it automatically turns into the store and I am forced to buy a dozen.

We have tons of Dunkin Donuts shops around here that see a lot of business; however, I'm not all that fond of Dunkin Donuts either, especially after trying a donut from an independent bakery that put all others to shame. A Krispy Kreme opened here a few years back and there were incredibly long lines - for a few months. They closed last year.
I agree it's a really odd crime.

When I was in HS we didn't have a KK in our nearby city so this girl I went to school with was a major kiss ass and would head to Houston (2hrs away maybe little less depending on traffic) once or twice a week to get her teachers KK for that morning. So I figure she would have to wake up and leave at 4am to get there and back for school at first bell.
I don't like sweets at all...but I tried KK before I don't think they taste any different than DD.

I don't like Krispy Kreme at all. I do like Dunkin Donuts I wish they hadn't put one so close to me. I use to have to drive about 20 to 30 mins to get DD depending on traffic but now it's only like 5 mins away. This is not good for my diet when I'm feeling stressed.

That is crazy stuff!
I live in VT and we don't have Kripsy Kreme here. Only Dunkin donuts (I typed Funkin first! LOL!) and I don't like their donuts. They sit like a rock in your stomach after you eat them. On the rare occasion that I eat one, I always regret it.
