... Jennifer McGuire - whom I consider to be pretty sensible - after showing a bunch of ways to get the foil look without a Minc machine, after testing the Minc, said she liked the Minc better than her Scotch laminating machine.
I just wanted to say that Jennifer McGuire probably prefers the Minc to her regular old laminator, which by the way she raved about before she tested the Minc, because chances are she didn't have to actually purchase it. Not to say that I don't love Jennifer McGuire, because I absolutely do, and I am also VERY heavily influenced by her product reviews, but if I were given products to test, and they were a smidgen better than the thing I was using before I'd probably rave about them too because cost isn't an issue. I've seen JM test and rave about products and then I've never seen her use them again - She demoed the Fiskars Precision Paper trimmer once and said it was AWESOME. I ran out and bought it because mine was on the fritz. $120!! Guess what, I've never seen her use it since - and I don't think it's that awesome a trimmer!
I also wanted to chime in on this thread for 2 reasons: 1. I have a $40 laminator that I purchased before I heard about the Minc. Had I waited, I can assure you I'd be the proud owner of a Minc right now. But, and this leads me to my second reason for chiming in here... 2. My laminator works great. Granted, it doesn't have 5 heat settings, and yes it takes a long time to heat up, but it gives me results that I'm happy with. AND chances are that if I'm foiling something to add to a card that I'm sending to a friend, guess what... that friend wouldn't know the difference between something foiled with the Minc or my regular laminator. In fact they won't have the foggiest idea what I used to get the foil affect and would probably think it's store bought. Don't get me wrong, if my laminator were to break tomorrow, I'd buy the Minc, but until that time, I'll stick with my laminator. And as a side note, the first few times I used my laminator, I wasn't overly thrilled with the results. I have since discovered that I have to let it heat up for a long time. Even when the green light goes on, I'll let it sit for another 10-15 minutes before foiling and it now works beautifully.
