What do your grandchildren call you? Do you choose a name or did someone else (your child, your grandchild) choose one for you?
Shortly after telling me she was expecting my dd asked me what I want my grandchild to call me. I had never really thought about it before, partly because I really never thought I'd be a grandmother! My mom, her mom, and my sister who is a grandmother all went by Grammy. My dad's mom was Nanny. The baby's other grandmother is called Nammy by her other grandchildren.
I've decided on MiMi. Grammy will always be my mom and my grandmother so I needed something different.

My parents were gramma & pop pop. My nephew had issues saying gramma and for awhile she was ramma lol. I know a Nama ( Naa ma ) for the same reason. I'll never be a grandma so no worries there. And if I am ever lucky enough to be blessed with grandkids they can call me what ever they want ( though i Like Mimi least of all if they like it I'll get used to it) Congrats to you!! Enjoy it!

I love HipHOP! Me too! What fun. I am Nana or Nana Cats to distinguish me from their other grandmother who was already Nana to 8 or 9. I didn't want to be Grandma because that was my mother or Nannie because that was my own grandmother. I liked the name Nana and their other grandmother didn't object. The eldest child added Cats on the end totally off her own bat because we are the only cat owners in the family. My husband is Grumpy. Mainly because he is but also because it suits him. He's not grumpy with the girls though.

Sure I see some people like it. I just don't think I am a Mimi. Lol and really Id be happy with whatever. And I love hip hop I just don't think it would be the same if you asked to be called that. It better to be granted it accidentally lol! I love accidental grandparent names they are the best! My friend is Zay da lol because she didn't like Bubbe and they kids got the pronunciation of zavta wrong.

For a child to be able to name you they still need a starting point of something to call you.
I was living in Hawaii at the time my oldest grands were born. For my daughters children I was the 7th and youngest grandmother so all the "normal" American spins on Grandmother was taken. I chose the Hawaiian version of "tutu" and that is what they call me much to the confusion of preschool/elementary teachers who have lessons involving family relationships.

Well we are just Grandma and Grandpa, for now. My grandson is just shy of 1 1/2 years and doesn't have a big vocabulary yet. Sometimes when they start talking, they will come up with their own name for you. One of the little guys at daycare, whose Grandma sometimes picks him up, calls his grandparents Mops and Pops .

As you can see from my 2Peas name, I am GamGam. I was going to be Grammy, but my oldest grandson couldn't say it, so he named me GamGam, and I love it. DH is Daddy B. Our surname begins with B. I had thought it would be neat for the other grandfather of this grandson who named me to be called Daddy A, since that surname begins with A, so grandson would have Daddy A and Daddy B, but that granddad wanted to be Grandaddy.

I am Gigi and my DH is Papop. My DIL has a lot of step-family her step-dad was Mike and for some reason the grands called him Hikey. It was cute.

I love reading all of these answers!
I know that often the child will come up with a variation of a name for the grandparent. My Dad was Grampy but the second grand child somehow started calling him Bumpa...so he's Bumpa to her and her siblings but still Grampy to the other 10 grandchildren.

I was going to be Grammy but when the grandchildren started talking they called me Gramma so that's what I am.
Don't be surprised if after all your consideration your granddaughter comes up with her own name for you. It's happened a lot to my friends.

My son calls my mom Granny as that is the family tradition. (I never thought to ask my mom what she wanted to be called. I should have! I just assumed she wanted to be called Granny as that was what we called her mom).
He calls ex-DH's mom Obaachan which is Granny in Japanese.

My dgd is just over 2. I wanted to be Grandma, but since she started talking she has called me Mama (like momma not maw maw (not my favorite)). Her mom is very clearly Mommy, so it is easy to tell which of us she means. She calls my husband Papa, so we are Mama and Papa. I would imagine that I will become Grandma when she gets older, but I love Mama for now!
Her other grandma requested to be Nana and she is. Dgd calls them Nana and Grandpa.

I came in late to the party. They already had a Nina and Grandma Shelley. So they call me Grandma Suziee. DH is called PeePaw. When the oldest DGS was 6, they moved to CA - it broke his little heart. He talked about his PeePaw all the time and was laughed at. About 3 months after they moved, he came for a visit and told PeePaw he was always being laughed at and asked if he could call DH by his first name. DH told him if he felt it would be easier for him, that he should do that. Well, DGS is 21 and still calls DH PeePaw.
Not sure what DD's kids will call me, but I'm sure DH will be PeePaw.
(My grandparents were grandma and grandpa and I never knew there were other names for grandparents until I moved south at 23 years old. I was amazed at the variety of names!)

no grandchildren here yet.
My grandparents were Granny/Grandpa and Gran/Grandfather. My Mum is Granny (her choice) and my "step-mum" is Oma. My sister is GG
My Mil is Grammy. GMIL is Grandmom. My SILs are/were (1 is deceased) Nana, Mimi and Nanny.
I'm hoping to be a Gram or Gran or Grandmum when the time comes but we'll have to see

My mom wanted to be called by her first name because she hates all forms of grandmother.... but our oldest daughter had a speech delay so said my mom's name like Gung!! 14+ years later and she is Gung to all of us, even my DH refers to her by that name! My dad is Grumpy because, well... he is.

DH's parents were already Grandma and Grandpa when my kids were born, so that's what they stayed.
My mom decided she didn't want to be called Grandma, she wanted to be Grandmother. So that's what all the grandkids call her. My dad is Grandaddy. Just kind of goes along with Grandmother.

We were always going to be Grandma and Grandpa but when out first grandchild began talking we were called Gramma and Poppa and the next grandson followed him. So that is what we are.

I am a gig fan of the silly nicknames. My mom is Bertie, short version of her name. My dad is PopPop. My aunt is known as "Hubba" to her grands. She would sing some song that ended with "Hubba hubba ding dong" to her first grandkid. And the kid loves it so much that she called my aunt "Hubba" from then on. My grandfather was "Honey Babe" for similar reasons.

Both grandmothers are Grandma Last Name. But one grandpa was Boppa and one was Poppy for a while. But my kids are teens now and they are Grandpa Last Name.
