I was going through some old scrapbooking books published a few years ago. And I started to wonder about what happened to some people; the people that formed the various small companies that manufactured or designed SB projects "back in the day?" Like Kay Stanley who started K & Company (now owned by Wilton LLC (EK Success)), or Melody Ross that had "Chatterbox."
Back only a few years ago, there seemed to be a greater variety of designs and a stronger difference between brands. Now, so many just look like variations on the same theme, just a different set of colors.
So who are you wondering about?

I've never wondered about designers, I have no idea who any of them are. I just buy the paper I like, I don't know who designed it.
But going through old mags does make me wonder what happened to the layout contributors. Some people become really popular and their pages are in the mags all the time for a year or two, then they disappear and someone else becomes "flavour of the month".
I guess the 'old' contributors and designers all go to the scrappers retirement village together. lol.

Some are probably still active and have blogs or youtube channels. I know when scrapping started to wane a lot of businesses went under and others sold to bigger companies (AC anyone?).

I recall seeing a regular contributor to "Scrapbook Etc." magazine on a blog about a year or so ago. It looks like she has gone into fashion design (I believe it was purses). I was thinking that was probably her real passion but went into scrapbooking as a sideline. I can't remember her name though. Arrgh!

The only one I really am interested in is Lisa Bearnson. She started Creating Keepsakes Magazine. Her kids are adorable and I always wonder how they're doing.

I think about Michelle Gerbrandt from time to time. She wrote me the sweetest, most kind letter I have ever received from someone I have never met. Real, pen on stationary paper letter.
After she left Memory Makers it's like she fell off the planet. I would love to know what she's been up to since MM.

I used some old Chatterbox paper on a layout a couple of weeks ago and wondered about some of these ladies then!

Me too. Google searches have turned up nothing for me.

Afraid to say I don’t think about past designers/owners too much. Perhaps because I didn't follow people as much as I do now? I'm not really aware of the background to a lot of the manufacturers around at the moment.

I often wonder about some of the frequent contributors in the early days of Creaking Keepsakes. I kept all my issues of that and Simple Scrapbooks for a long time, but finally got rid of them 2 years ago when I moved across the country and downsized quite a bit. But there were a dozen or so who filled the pages of nearly every issue for a few years there. Then disappeared.

I went on Shannon Tidwell's blog the other day and had to giggle a bit because she is baking cookies now. She was the first scrapbooker I really started noticing back in '04 and '05.
Add me to the list of Melody Ross fans. She has really been through so much!

I missed 2 issues, max, at exactly that time so have always wondered about her.

Or Nia Reddy. She scrapped pics of her adorable son.
I also loved chatterbox and was sad to hear all the Ross family went through. Melody seems to have come through it all with such grace. I still use the chatterbox papers I hoarded and really wish those lines were available as quilting fabric

I'd like to see some of the former scrappers' kids now that they are probably all grown up. I mean that in the most un-stalkerish way possible.

About six months ago I found an old Creating Keepsakes idea book from 1998 stuck behind a drawer. Looking through the layouts in the book I realized that most of those kids are all grown up or pretty close to being grown up now.
