I would also wonder about hyperthyroidism due to the weight loss & bowel changes.

My current doctor is a DO and I've gone to DOs in the past. It's really unlikely that you would notice much difference depending on the doctor. Just like regular MDs, there's a whole range of good to bad, etc.
A DO would be more likely to recommend physical manipulation (such as chiropractic) but I really feel that it just depends on the doctor themselves and not as much as whether they hold an MD or DO. It's definitely not like they don't use drug therapy or other traditional therapies in their practices (at least in my experience with them) and I've never had one recommend anything in the arena of what I would consider holistic unless you consider recommending something like yoga as something to try when physical therapy hasn't been effective but before considering a surgical consult, etc.
