If you live in a place where you can get a house cleaner fairly cheaply, that's the best option.
Otherwise, just serve plenty of wine, and no one will care what your house looks like.

Dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning fingerprints and dirt off of heavily trafficked doors and frames are my biggest priorities. Then the bathrooms, focusing on the floor around the toilet and putting away the random stuff the ends up on the counters during day to day life. Living room always gets a once over, putting blankets and magazines in bins inside the closet and making sure the floor under the couch is cleaned out.
Kitchen is always last since I'm usually doing stuff up until the last minute. I try to keep people in the living room and backyard instead of in the kitchen, it gets a deeper clean after the party.

I would vacuum all floors, dust tables, etc., make sure bathrooms are clean (toilets, sinks, mirror), put away any clutter sitting out, straighten up laundry room bec it's right by the kitchen and deal with the clutter and whatever has piled up in my bedroom and bathroom. My DH would make sure the garage is cleaned up (why???) and leaves blown and swept up. Why do men focus on the outside when there's so much to do on the inside?? styxgirl I feel your pain!

I'd do a once over of the kitchen drawers & cabinets - people always want to help cook/clean up. They start opening drawers & cabinets to put things away or find something. You never realize how hideous your junk drawer is until someone else is peering into it. I'd spend a few minutes opening those kinds of things & looking with fresh eyes - don't get crazy, it's not something I'd spend tons of time on...but 15 minutes can help a lot with a junk drawer.
