Last month my DH and I went to Ikea to pick up new furniture for my scraproom. I've been eyeing the Varde kitchen base cabinets since Ali Edwards put two of them in her office last year. The one thing I wasn't thrilled about was the finish; blonde wood. I spent the last week sanding, priming, painting, and finishing the base and butcher block. It really came out spectacular. DH and I had to finish putting the drawers in and attaching the butcher block top. For some strange reason, the drawer pull holes were not drilled through all the way. As part of the instructions, you have to drill through it with an electric drill. DH drilled through all six of the holes and when we turned over the drawer, the wood was completely split. I was so upset. He felt really bad.
After spending almost 30 minutes on hold with Ikea, the told me they would replace the drawer fronts that were damaged. The nearest store is an hour away and I can't even get there until Wednesday.
I was so looking forward to moving the piece into my scraproom and start organizing.
Really bummed!

Oh no! That sucks. Sorry the store is so far away and you have to wait so long. I definitely know how that feels. Hopefully they'll be able to replace them really soon for you, but what to do with yourself the rest of the day? Any way you can still move things around so you still feel like you're getting something accomplished? Can your things go in the drawers without the fronts?

Sorry about the frustration! Just when you thought the end was in sight, now you're in a holding pattern. I've loved those islands since Ali did the updated tour of her office. Seems like such a great setup. I saw that someone on Craigslist local to me had one posted and it was so hard to resist, but honestly, I don't *need* it, I just want it! My closest IKEA is 2+ hours away and the shipping is so crazy expensive!

How frustrating. I'm glad they will take them back though. Post pictures when you get it all done. I'd love to see what you did with them.

That stinks! As others have said good customer service on Ikea's part for the replacement. I'd love to see your room when finished!

Bummer! I know how hard it is to be mid project and have to stop!! All the mojo flies out the door. Hopefully when you get the replacements you can get right to work and finish and get in your scrap room and play!

So sorry to hear this, I'd be crying, too. I love Ikea furniture, but know how it is when you don't live near one. The closest Ikea to me is over two hours away. Hope you can get your scraproom together soon and without too many more tears. I'd love to see pics when you're done, it sounds awesome.

Thanks ladies. I know it's not a big deal but I just felt so defeated last night. Since the drawer fronts are so small, I can finish them in one day. I'm going to move it in to my room so I can at least start organizing the shelves. I'll post pics when it's completely finished.
