I might be "old school" but I really prefer this size. Right now I am doing 12x12 but want to move back to 8.5x11. But it's so difficult to find sketches. And albums! I can't find reasonably priced WRMK 8.5x11 albums online.
Anyone else scrap this size?

I do. I have slways scrapped that size, except for Disney trips. I prefer rectangles to scrap on, it is just easier for me. I don't always follow sketches exactly, so I use 12x12 sketches and just alter them to work. I will look at my Pinterest board later and see where my 8.5x11 ones are from though and post a link here for you. I buy my albums at M's when they are on sale, I use the ones that look like the AC modern ones.

I am scrapping some of my daughter's baby book in this size. Here's a link to my (small) pinterest board for these size layouts.

I returned to 8.5 x 11 about 4 years ago and pretty much only scrap that size. I still have some 12x12 albums that I add to. Like I have been working on a 12 x 12 Air Force album.
I have used all available shelf space on 12x12 albums but have scrapped many more 8.5x11 albums. I actually hoarded a bunch of 8.5x11 WRMK albums I got on clearance.
I will never go back to 12x12 unless it is a specialty album of some kind. I also get my photos printed so that I have 2 on a 4x6. Only a special photo is printed by itself in 4x6. That way my albums don't fill up too quickly. I prefer it and like that I can easily put 4 pics on a page with plenty of room for fun stuff.

I scrap 8 1/2x11 or 9x12 and just adapt layouts for that size. I made one 12x12 album and that was enough - LOL. They're too big to fill and store for me.

I do layouts of all different sizes and just keep them in 12x12 albums. I don't mind having the mix of sizes in the same album.

I do!
I use Pinterest for 8.5x11" sketches.
I haven't bought albums (I exclusively use 3 ring from WRMK) since the spring when I scored them for $9.99 each at A.C. Moore on clearance. I bought five then.

I scrap 8 1/2x11 for my kids' pictures. I have an ongoing 12x12 family album, too. I started out scrapping 12x12 and then switched to 8 1/2x11 after a year or so. There are pros and cons to both. At times 12x12 felt like too much space. Sometimes I feel limited by 8 1/2x11 when I'm doing two page layouts with lots of pictures, though. 4x6 pictures are too big so I use photosheet to get two 3x4 pictures printed together. If I am doing a single photo layout or a two photo layout I'll use photosheet to make them 3 1/2x5. 4x4 or 3x3 also work well for me. I like grids so I use a lot of those.
It can be a challenge to find sketches. I don't really find Page Maps to be helpful because they don't do many multi photo sketches in that size. They're usually one or two small pictures in the sketch. I usually look through my pinterest boards for a two page layout or a Scrapbook Generation layout with the same number of pictures and try to adjust for size.
In the past couple of years I've bought my scrapbooks and page protectors at Hobby Lobby. I've never had a problem finding what I need there.

I have had trouble the past year finding black WRMK albums, too. This is the only place I have been able to find them. I just ordered 5 more. I use a lot of them....I scrap for 12 grandchildren. www.allscrapbooksteals.com/classicleather85x11ringalbum.aspxAs for sketches, I have a lot of old BH sketch books that have that size but I adapt 12x12 sketches to 11x8, if I like them. It's really easy, just make everything a little smaller.

I only occasionally do this size. I don't know why, because it is nice to work with! I also adapt 12x12 sketches, and there are some I have used several times over. The finished pages all look different, so I'm sure no-one else would ever notice (or care!) that they all follow the same basic plan.

I'm another one that mixes my sizes. I do more 12x12, but still do a lot of 8.5x11. I even do smaller sizes sometimes. They all live happily together in my album. I also adapt 12x12 sketches. I shrink elements or leave stuff off to make the large sketches work.

I do both 8.5 x 11 and 12 x 12. I try and do mostly 8.5 x 11 for my kids pages for their books. I do sometimes feel like all my 8.5 x 11 look alike. I will have to check out the Pinterest board!

I started with 8.5/11 albums and then switched in 2000. I primarily do 12x12, but still have some older pictures I am scrapping and have a couple favorite photos albums that are 8.5x11.

I use both - my digi art journaling is 8.5x11 so I can print it at home. I also do some digi layouts in 8.5x11.

Thanks everyone for your input and ideas!! I think I'm going to try the mixing of sizes in my 12x12 album. Even though it kinda freaks out this OCD'er. I started out scrapping 12x12 and then switched to 8 1/2x11 after a year or so. There are pros and cons to both. At times 12x12 felt like too much space. Elsabelle, That is exactly how I feel about the various sizes! And I will take a look at HL when I get some time. Thanks!

I love this size! I also hunt the WRMK albums on sale and like the close top Avery sheet protectors for full page and all the fun WRMK for more pocket style scrapbooking, but am still hunting for one that holds the 3x4 project life style cards. Ali Edwards and Cathy Zielske both sometimes feature layouts in this size.

I only scrap 8 1/2 x 11 now. LOVE it, and have been doing it for many years now. You can see my pages here. Also, sometimes I will use a sketch but I just use a 12x12 sketch and "shrink" it down. Works amazing. You can also see samples of that by using the same link. triplethescraps.blogspot.com/search/label/Layouts

I've always scrapped 8.5x11" (with an occasional smaller album but never 12x12). I don't look for 8.5x 11" sketches specifically - I just adapt from the 12x12 ones
Albums...I'm still working on that - for now, my layouts are in 3-ring binders

What kind of normal 3-ring binders work with 8.5x11 page protectors? All of the ones I have tried (admittedly just a couple) are a little too short on width and the PP end up hanging out of the side a bit. I have the same issue with mini binders from Target and the PP they sell for them. I've always scrapped 8.5x11" (with an occasional smaller album but never 12x12). Wow! All of those are great! Thank you! I currently scrap 6x8 (PL and layouts) but have been thinking about doing more layouts at 8.5x11. Storage for 12x12 is way too much trouble when I can keep anything smaller on a normal bookshelf. I'm way more of a mini scrapper, too, and 12x12 scares me. I am scrapping some of my daughter's baby book in this size. Here's a link to my (small) pinterest board for these size layouts.

I don't buy scrapbooking page protectors though - I buy the 100 packs from the office store - maybe that's the difference? I think the scrapbooking ones tend to have wider borders (where the holes are)

I mix my sizes, but have often thought that if I could go back and do it over, I would totally stick with 8.5x11. It's so much easier to store an 8.5x11 album that a 12x12.

I am definitely "old school" and I scrap 8.5x11 exclusively. I have two Pinterest boards of this size examples (or 12x12 that could easily convert) and a board of 8.5x11 sketches. Here is a link to my boards. www.pinterest.com/nyleneb/I gave up finding nice albums and began buying Costco 4" presentation binders. I decorate the spine and put a layout in the front and back cover. They are tough and stand up to the "looking" of my grandchildren and nothing hangs out at the top or bottom.

I am just finishing off a 12 x 12 album for this year and then I am switching to 8,5 x 11 for good. I find it much easier to scrap in a smaller size and, because I like to make hybrid layouts, I find it so easy to print at home on a regular sized printer. I never use sketches and get most of my inspiration from Pinterest. Buying the albums is tricky for me (I'm in Portugal) but I only use the WRMK albums, love them! pt.pinterest.com/joteves/scrapbooking-smaller-sizes/

Most of my albums are 8.5x11 other than my recipe albums which are 8x8. I do have a 12x12 album, but I have never used it.

I do! I really like that it lets me print my journaling directly onto the page (my handwriting is borderline illegible). I just got some coral WRMK albums on sale that should keep me going for a while.
Cathy Zielske scrapbooks 8.5x11, if you can get hold of her old books, they're full of great pages!
