What did you get busted for?
Every so often the story comes up about my sneakiest sneek that I got away with for YEARS before I finally got busted. My friends and I weren't allowed on the phone after 9pm but i had it set up so that at 9:30 I would call the homework hotline (a prerecorded message that cycles through the homework assignments for the entire middle school over and over) and a minute later my friend would call me. I would answer the call waiting, it never rang and we could chat all night. Perfection. I started that in 5th grade I think and I didn't get busted until almost the end of my sophomore year. The only reason I got caught was because my stepdad rolled over and saw the 'line in use' light on their phone (duh!, I should've removed the bulb!) and thought the phone was just left off the hook and went searching for it. He was so impressed with my creativity that I didn't get in trouble.
I never got busted sneaking out. I used to spend the night at my friends house every weekend. Her parents went to bed early as they had to get up for work at 5:00 am. We would leave 15 minutes after they went to bed, have someone pick us up down the street and then go to house parties until 15 minutes before her parents woke up. We locked ourselves out once but just sat on the picnic table in their yard. We told her dad that we walked outside to look at the moon and didn't want to wake them up when we realized we were locked out. He was like "Oh, ok." and that was it. Man, her parents were dumb. I'm amazed we survived those summers.

I was the world's most boring teenager. My idea of a wild time was spending the weekend with my grandparents and watching Golden Girls while they had a card party.

I had a sister that's 5 years older than me, so I was getting drunk every other weekend at her house. I was also having sex on a fairly regular basis with a guy way too old for me, but my parents actually liked him. By the time they found out his true age, they were ok with him (he's 9.5 years older than me... and my ex husband).
I lived in BFE so there was no sneaking out without someone finding out.

I never got busted . My favorite story was when one sister told my parents she was babysitting. She was at a friend's house getting ready to head out to party when her friend got a call from the family sis said she was babysitting. This family always called the friend first and then my sis second, so when her friend said she couldn't do it and hung up, she & sis went into a panic knowing our house was the next call.

I was a goodie two shoes in school for the most part, but I did get away with some stuff. My BFF at the time and I both looked sweet and innocent in high school and we were good students so we could take part in an internship program through the school where kids could go off campus in the community and do community service type internships during the school day. Let's just say that there were several days when we almost got busted by the assistant principal ditching class, but we just smiled sweetly and said, "We're just coming back from our internship at ABC grade school library!" He would just smile back and say, "Have a great day, girls!" Never got in trouble! On senior ditch day, a bunch of my friends and I skipped school and went to the beach. A bunch of other kids in our grade did too. The cops came with a school bus and rounded up every other group there and hauled them back to school except us! I'm not sure why we didn't get busted too but we didn't. My older brother would take my little brother and me to the drive-in movies hidden in the closed hatchback of his car! He also snuck in beer hidden inside his work lunchbox. LOL, my older siblings pulled so much stuff and got in so much trouble all the time that I could have done a lot more than I did and not get in trouble. I went to school, got good grades and basically stayed out of trouble. I was a saint by comparison, so my mom gave a lot of leeway.

I don't remember getting busted for anything that bad, but I was doing a whole lot of bad things I could have gotten busted for - drinking, smoking (legal and illegal) and sneaking out.

Just thought of another one! I used to cut school every now and again when I was a junior and senior in high school. I would get the manager from my part time job to pretend he was my dad and call me in sick. One day my mom called my Chem teacher (no email back then!) because my grade was in the toilet and when asked how I could improve my grade, the teacher told my mom I should come to school more regularly, which then my mom question her. Oh, that was a fun Friday night, lol, trying to explain that one. The one thing I couldn't do was skip school. My dad was a mail carrier and delivered mail to the school. He knew every time I wasn't in school.

I was never one to sneak around, because I was too afraid of getting caught. My big snafu was lame. It was the 70's and I went to a protest for something political. My father had strictly forbidden me to go. Still, I was going to march whether he liked it or not. I had just hoped he wouldn't see me. Well, we were marching around town and I had a sign that had fallen apart. So, I looked really pathetic. Anyway, I'm marching and chanting and guess who drives up to me? Yup, we were in front of the post office and he had gone there to check his mail. I was in so much trouble or so I thought. That night he got home from work and apologized to me for trying to tell me what to think. He respected my political viewpoint and was glad that I cared enough to march. Ya, nothing exciting. However, for me it was huge, cause I never went against my folks.

Seriously, what I did get caught for would be shorter.
I smoked starting around 12 years old. I drank, smoked pot, did acid a couple of times. I snuck out (but never from my house). Had sex. Jumped into cars with random people while crusing college, jumped the local hill road (mountainous, windy road going way too fast)...
So much.

My cousin and I lit my grandmother's pinic table on fire by putting gasoline on it and lighting it. It must have been non-flammable because after the gas burnt it pretty much went out. The table was right outside my grandma's dining room window and she didn't notice.

I had a single parent that just.did.not.care.
I had a pretty good head on my shoulders, if she said no and I disagreed I did it anyway. I never did anything illegal.
My favorite story is half way through grade 11 the principal pulls me into his office to lecture. He asks me if I knew how many days I'd been away that term. I said no. He slams his big meaty fist down on the big wooden desk, trying to scare me. And says it's easier to say how many days you have been in attendance. I looked him right in the eye and asked him how my marks were? He turned the most brilliant shade of red. And tells me that's not the point. I was calm, polite, respectful. Asked again about marks. He said you are still on honour roll. I asked him if we really had a problem then? From sept - January I'd attended something like 11 days. I guess there had been 11 tests. I used to ride school bus to school, get off, and walk the other direction. Then I'd get back on school bus, grab homework, and go home. It worked very well for me.

SO freaking lucky I didn't get busted for most of my shenanigans. Everyone thought I was an innocent flower, lol. One pretty bad thing I did was when I was 21 my bff was 20. I gave her my birth certificate and social security card to go to the DMV to get a driver's license with MY name, id, etc. and HER pic so she'd have ID showing that she was over 21. This was before computers so it was a piece of cake. We'd go to clubs together & no one noticed that we had the exact same name, address, birthdate, etc. In that state, drivers licenses were a different color if you were over 21. I guess they just looked at the pic & if you had the over 21 color code. Now, I'm SO very thankful that she was always safe & I realize how incredibly STUPID that was. Also, once had a car chase with the assistant principal while skipping school. I lost him. And never heard a word about it.

This was before computers so it was a piece of cake. We'd go to clubs together & no one noticed that we had the exact same name, address, birthdate, etc. It was a bit less complicated for me to get my fake ID – nothing as fancy as a photo ID back in the 80’s! When I was 17yo I borrowed a copy of my BFF’s birth certificate (I didn’t have a copy of my own) and used White Out to blank out the year of birth which was 1967. Then I went into the typing room at school and typed 1966 into the blank space to make myself one year older. Then I went to the school library and paid 5 cents to use the photocopier and make another copy so you couldn’t tell I’d used White Out! The first time I used the fake ID at a pub the bouncer must have had some doubts and made me sign a Statutory Declaration stating that I was 18yo. I happily signed it, not realising the ramifications of getting caught making a false statement on a stat dec. Most of my friends had a LOT more freedom than I did, and were allowed to roam the streets at night when they were only 14 or 15. My parents were a lot stricter so I had to say I was staying at a friend’s house if I wanted to roam the streets. My friends and I hung out at “The Comm” every day after school. It was the local community centre and my parents wouldn’t let me go there because all the local delinquents hung out there. Well that didn’t stop me, I still went there every single day after school. Both of my parents worked so they had no idea I was there. Several of the dead shits who also used to hang out there are dead now due to drugs etc. No wonder my parents didn’t want me there! I started drinking at 14, no idea how I wasn't ever busted for that. I also used to drive older friends' cars 2 years before I was legally allowed to drive. I dread to think what would have happened to me if I'd had an accident! The only thing I got busted for was smoking when I was 14. Well they didn’t actually catch me in the act, they just found a packet of smokes under my bed.

With all the stuff I did as a teen, my kids surprise me at how "good" they are. I think it's different times, though. There are so much more consequences and zero tolerance now than back in the 70's and 80's.
My kids like That 70's Show and always tease me about it. I am (pretty) honest with them, but also make sure they know these are different and more dangerous times. They really have little interest in the crazy stuff that was so common in my day. Weird. I'm happy that they are "good" kids but it is so different now. In my day, most of the "good" kids partied, too.

If this is how it works, I am totally screwed. I was a boring high school kid even though I had a lot of freedom. I stayed out past curfew a few times but I'm pretty sure my mom knew DD has a mischievous streak so I could be in trouble.

Very tame stuff, almost straight out of "crazy teen" central casting. I snuck out of the house several times, but only so a friend and I could run around giggling and sticking notes to the windows of boys we liked. I also managed to get into two fairly big concerts without my parents finding out. Any Bay Area peas remember Day on the Green concerts from the 1980's? I went to a couple of those.

I did my share of silly stupid stuff as a teen, nothing overly dangerous. One funny thing: Our school bus stop was right in front of the post office. After getting off the bus each day, my sister and I would go inside and get the mail for Mom. We knew when midterm progress reports were expected to show up and if one did on a Friday, we would leave it in the mailbox if we had weekend plans.. We normally had decent grades when report cards came out, but sometimes at midterm things were below Mom's standards and she always seemed to be looking for a reason to ground us each weekend. haha Poor kids today, we can check their grades online every. single. day. if we want to.

One of the things I got caught for was forging my mother's signature. Progress reports came out and my grades would be getting me grounded. Mom didn't seem to know they were out so I forged her signature and turned them in. Week or two later it's parent/teacher conference time and they get wind of that and attend. Mom is surprised by my grades and the teacher says well you should have some idea, you saw her progress report.... To say she was pissed is putting it mildly! All the while yelling and screaming at me she announces that my forged version was so good she almost thought it was her signature (which was not meant as a compliment.) There was plenty I didn't get caught at thankfully. The funny part is she now thinks I was an easy child to raise.

I was terminally boring. I plan on growing old disgracefully to make up for this though . I lived next door to another girl 2 months older than me but a year below me in school. She was WILD and frequently used me as her alibi, which I was not keen on. I told her I would not snitch, but neither would I lie for her as some of the stuff she did could have had really serious consequences. She overdid it one weekend and was brought home in a cop car

I think there was one whole time, where my friend and I said we were going to a movie. We really were, but stopped to say hi to some friends while we were on our way, turned out they were having a party so we stayed. I had an actual alcoholic drink, too! (One!) That was literally the only time I ever drank in high school.
There were sometimes church youth group trips that maybe weren't as G-rated as parents would like to have believed, but they weren't much "worse."
My mom once told me (when I was safely an adult) that she almost had wished I'd gotten in a little more trouble - I think she was worried I was overly meek and ending up overly sheltered. I got past the meek part eventually, lol, but I've still always been the "good girl."
ETA: forgot being accused of cheating once. I know there was apparently a lot of evidence that I did, but oddly I don't think that I did. I know at the time I said I didn't, but no one really believed me although they did let it go. To this day, I can't say with certainty if I really did or not.

Everyone thought I was a quiet goody-goody. My mom slept like a rock. Literally....nothing wakes her. Dad was a long-haul truck driver so rarely home. I could leave the house (no need to sneak, just go through the door), have fun till all hours of the night and get back home before mom woke up. And drinking. While out with friends, at my home or friend's home, even IN school. My friend & I would add some vodka to our sprite and we were allowed to have pop in school. So we were in school with spiked sprite. Pam

I became fast friends with a girl when I was 12. She had an older sister that liked to party. I was one wild and crazy girl from then till I was almost 19. Only got caught once doing something I shouldn't. I settled down, met my DH and got married at 20 and have been a good girl ever since

I learned how to duplicate my Dad's signature while working for the family business. By the time I was in high school, it got to the point that Dad couldn't tell if he signed an invoice or I signed it for him.
"Dad" signed me out of school for a LOT of afternoon appointments. A lot. "He" also may have signed a few "Your daughter is being a shit" notes from teachers and a few "sick days" notes. I was an honor student and a good kid overall. I just didn't like being there all the time. If the weather was nice, I wanted to be pretty much anywhere but a school building. I almost got caught once when the school sent an auto dial call through on an evening after I skipped a day with several friends. We all got the calls. The school was small and they noticed when a group that hung together was all out on the same day. I came home from school and told them that the teacher recorded the wrong student absent - we shared a last name but not family - and I corrected it with the office. Really, "Dad" corrected it with a note.

I wasn't too bad. The worst thing I did was tell my mom I was going to rec softball practice when I was really going to my boyfriends house to almost but not have sex. I didn't drink or smoke or do any drugs until I was of legal age.
