Last night I ended up going out for pizza with a friend so I finally tossed the chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn leftover from Sunday in the garbage. I really hate to throw away food Tonight I'm making chicken fried steaks with pork cutlets. I'm going to roast some potatoes, onions, carrots and broccoli and make a delecta squash. I've never had it before but I've been told it's the best squash. We'll see, I'm not much of a squash eater. What are you having tonight and do you have any tips on making a milk gravy for my steaks? P.S. anxiousmom, the Taste of Home raspberry muffin recipe with buttermilk and butter in it is wonderful. You could use it for any fruit.

I wish I could help with the gravy-I am not a red meat eater, so I don't have a single tip. Well, beyond making it the same way I would make a milk gravy for anything else?? I am still in the early stages of trying to decide what to make for dinner tonight. I have a choice of cobbling together some kind of weird pantry food or going to the grocery store. Not feeling a trip to the grocery store, but heavens I am out of pretty much every single staple I use. So maybe peanut butter out of the jar with a spoon?

I have a pound of ground beef defrosting and I guess I'll make meatloaf or spaghetti with it. Will discuss with the 6yo after school. Since we're so rushed at dinner time most nights, I want to make something I can spend some time on tonight, that we'll both enjoy. And a salad to use up the lettuce before I go shopping again. We pretty much ate all the other fresh veggies already. I feel so virtuous. ETA you do not want white gravy advice from me. The last time I tried to make it, things went horribly, horribly wrong.

Delicata squash is so amazing, slice and roast it - yum!
It's baseball practice for youngest ds, which means a late night. Dh and boys will have chicken and bean burritos. I have the chicken cooked, shredded and ready to go and I'll have it without the tortilla, I might even add kale to mine.

My friend and I are going to a 50's sock hop tonight at the American Girl store in honor of our DGGs who all live out of town and can't come. We are dressing up 50's style.
All that to say, we are eating out sans costume somewhere good!!

You could use it for any fruit. I make milk gravy all the time. After you've fried your steaks, add some more oil or butter if you don't think you have enough in the pan, I'd say 1/4 cup or so. Heat up and add 1/4 cup flour, stir and cook it for a couple of minutes. Add 2 cups of milk and salt and pepper to taste. If you don't have a lot of drippings, you might want to dissolve a beef bullion cube for a little more flavor. Cook until thickened and bubbly. Thin it with more milk if needed to your liking.

Tonite I'm trying Carnie Wilson's Fall to Your Knees Mac & Cheese. However, since it's $30/lb, I will be switching out the Gruyere for regular ole Swiss. Who the hell eats $30 mac & cheese?

We are having our Thanksgiving dinner tonight, only chicken instead of turkey.
My dgc & I baked 4 pies from scratch this morning and are working on the potatoes and scrubbing the heirloom carrots.
Busy weekend so this is the day that suits everyone the best.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Friday is traditionally pizza night at our house, but I think tonight I'll make calzones. So it's really pizza with a different presentation! Ha!

Debating between homemade calzones or pizza with salads. I am looking forward to the salads most of all because I bought kalamata olives and feta cheese, yum! I guess I will survey the crowd when they all get home. Need fast and simple, it's another hockey game night. Have a good weekend everybody! Edit: Ha, looks like I am not the only one thinking calzones!

I have a pot of minestrone simmering away. I cleared the refrigerator out by using leftover roasted cauliflower, green beans and some spinach.

We are supposed to go off-Cape this evening to join 36 members of our family for our Thanksgiving celebration. My inlaws take care of all of the accommodations for all 36 of us and they take care of our Thanksgiving dinner too. They celebrate with all the family in October because they didn't want any of the grown kids w/families of their own to have to be pulled in different directions on the actual holiday. Yep, they are so thoughtful! I'm staying home tonight - I have some yucky cold thing going on and feel like crap. Dh and dd and her bf will drive up tonight and hopefully I'll feel better and join them tomorrow. It's only a 2 hour drive, so I can head up there separately when I feel better. Tonight it's me, one dog and a cup of hot tea on the couch. No sleeping in my bedroom because our new hardwood floors on the stairs were done today and we can't walk on them for another day

Not a fan of milk gravy. I would probably de-glaze pan with a little broth, bring to a boil, and then add the thickener slurry. I use cornstarch because I can't have flour. Are these pork steaks you are chicken frying, akathy?
Going to a potluck of sorts tonight. Hostess is making pulled pork and potatoes of some kind. I'm making a quick cornbread after work to take along.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

We ended up not doing the Philly cheese steak sandwiches last night. I got to feeling really bad. I guess it was my fibro acting up and DH had a long day so we had takeout. So, that is what we will be having tonight.

We had a fun field trip this morning to the fire station, but now I am starting to get a headache. I actually think it's the weather change and not the field trip. We're supposed to get rain tonight and tomorrow. Too bad for all the people who come for the car show. Always hit or miss as to what the weather will be like With all the said... I am planning on bean and cheese nachos, but that may change if my headache isn't gone by dinnertime.

Dh brought home wings, so I guess his dinner is taken care of! I may make myself a veggie burger and have a salad. Feeling mellow tonight and really don't want to cook anything.

Too.tired.to.cook. I could write a whole long post about my day, but I won't bore you with the details. Dh and dd16 will have to fend for themselves tonight. Dd loves it when I do that. LOL

Taco salads. I have the "as seen on tv" perfect tortilla bowl pans to make baked tortilla bowls for them. It will be really tasty, once I get enough energy to start cooking. Such a tiring week.

We were going to grill but had an unexpected downpour of rain, so I ended up making hamburgers on the George Foreman grill and serving them with French fries and antipasto salad.

It's YOYO night here, thank heavens. I start cleaning and doing laundry at 7:30 and I have my last load of laundry in the dryer now and finally finished the last of my cleaning. We have a soccer tournament tomorrow and Sunday so I had to make dinners for tomorrow night and Sunday night since I have no idea when we'll get home. So I made homemade sloppy joes for tomorrow and french onion soup for Sunday. And I baked 4 dozen cookies to take with us to the tournament tomorrow. Add to that I'm having some sinus issues that are causing headaches and ear/jaw pain and I'm SO over today. And while I love watching my girls play soccer, I'm not all that excited to sit on the field for the next 2 days.
ETA: Kids had a frozen pizza and I had scrambled eggs and toast.
