My sister had a lemon-sized meningioma on the skull base, which surrounded her carotid artery and was touching her optic nerve. The neurosurgeon at her local hospital told her that he could remove part of the tumor and than would have to use a gamma knife (radiation) to get the remainder. She instead sought out a neurosurgeon who specialized in skull base tumors and he successfully removed 100% of her tumor. November 1 was the second anniversary of her surgery and she is about 98% normal, with only a little bit of droopy eyelid and twitching in her right eye.
She is very vain about her hair and her surgeon promised her he would only shave a very thin strip of hair, and he did, it was about 1/4" wide from above her right ear and over her head about 2/3 of the way to the other ear. My sister's hairdresser came to her house the day before surgery and freshened up her color, touched up her roots, and gave a new cut and style, and within a week of the surgery her hair was looking good.
Best wishes for an easy surgery and speedy recovery.
Sue

jumperhop so glad you got a second opinion. It is definitely worth doing, although I'm sure it's hard when you already have a relationship with a doctor. (I think that is what holds most people back from doing so)
