In grade school when a good friend that was our neighbor was moving away, she told me NOT to watch her car drive away until the point that it was out of sight or I'd never see her again. I only watched for a moment, and I still never saw her again, but to this day when someone drives away I won't watch them go.
I'm not superstitious in any other way, though, and I only toss salt over my shoulder out of habit when I decided it looked cool when I first saw someone do it on tv.

The only one we do with consistency is to fill all the salt shakers before New Years. To insure that there will be money in the house. ( or you won't go broke).

I do things like that without really thinking about them Knock on wood Throw salt over my shoulder when I spill the salt. Won't bring dogwood flowers in the house No washing clothes on New Year's Day If you wash clothes on NYD you'll be washing all year long. That's what we were told. Sorta stupid because of course you have to always wash clothes. Don't leave your Christmas tree up past 12/31. The one time my mother did my father died that year. 41 years ago and she still calls me and tells me to take the tree down!

I always knock on wood - it has to be real wood and usually I knock 3 times with 3 repetitions. Even my coworkers mow do it.
I also feel like if we name someone - speak their name, they will show up, so if someone is trying to think of the name of someone who was difficult or problematic I always say, "Don't speak it or they will show up."
I do believe things happen in 3's. At work when patients pass away it is always in groups of 3. It is bad when 2 have died and all the others are wondering who will go next.

My dh is a window cleaner so when his ladder is up, I don't walk under it. I knock on wood. I also own a black cat but he's a PITA!! I won't go to check-stand #13 at a grocery store. I was at the gym yesterday and the next available locker was #313 so I moved to the next one. I won't open an umbrella indoors or put a hat on a bed. I consider myself to be very superstitious and I also believe in Karma. Like someone said, it's a bitch! I've never heard of this one. Or what will happen? Just bad luck in general? I'm not superstitious at all. Like someone else said I'll say knock wood and hit my head.

I didn't want to name my kids after a person that was living. Not a Jewish superstition; just afraid that person might end up being a jack ass.

I won't let DD 13 have a Ouija board, and I believe you can Beetlejuice people. DS won't let me wash his Bball shorts during a winning streak. DH knocks on wood, and if he can't find wood, he knocks on his head and calls it Pinocchio-ing it to be safe.

I knock on wood.
Always put money in a purse/wallet when giving it as a gift.
I will never, ever touch a Ouija board. Ever.

I only watched for a moment, and I still never saw her again, but to this day when someone drives away I won't watch them go. My mother taught me this one too. When someone leaves my house, I wave goodbye but won't watch them drive away. She also said never to give someone a gift of scissors or knives. She took me to buy sewing scissors when. I was in high school, but gave me the money in front of the store and made me go in and buy them myself. Now I would let my kids take my scissors, but I never gave them any, LOL.

My parents are actually quite superstitious but I usually roll my eyes at their ideas.
But I do follow these:
I don't walk under ladders (bad luck) I don't open an umbrella in a house (bad luck). I knock on wood for good luck.
I also carry a coin in my wallet that my Mom gave to me a long time ago...about 15-20 years ago. It's a Lakshmi coin (the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity). She got it from India and told me to put it in my wallet, so I would always have money. Our wealth has definitely grown over the lat 15 years or so, and I sometimes wonder if this superstition plays a part in it (or it might just be good planning...but I'm not willing to take that chance and always make sure my coin is still in there when I open my wallet :-) ).

I could be your friend. I'm not superstitious in general. But, yeah nothing 666. I'll add an item to my order to avoid that number. If I come across it in a place I can't change it, I've caught myself crossing myself. lol Silly I know but there you have it.

I have heard of most of these because I lived with my grandparents growing up and they were superstitious. I guess the only one that really stuck with me is going in the same door I came out of. I don't know why. I even make my DH do it, lol.

None of the above. I'm not superstitious in the least and feel people who avoid certain things or practice strange little ritkuals just do so to be funny.

My husband's grandmother told him not to take a shower just after you eat or your face will turn on you. What the hell that meant I have no idea. I often wonder if someone who showered after they ate had a stroke or Bell's Palsy.

I won't open an umbrella in the house, or let anyone else do it, but I don't think it's so much out of superstition, as it is practical and polite not to do so.
I really don't believe in anything non-natural, so superstitions are not something I practice.

I don't walk under a ladder but I hadn't considered it a superstition, more of just pragmatic safety. If the ladder is the type that leans against a wall, someone walking between the wall and it could bump it and make it slide down; that would harm whoever was at the top of it. If it is the kind that forms a triangle and is free standing, I've seen people accidentally drop tools off of them. I don't want to be hit in the head with something.
I don't think I have any superstitions....
