Is there a big difference in these 2 fleece jackets? My dd has said she wants a North Face jacket but I see Kohl's has the Columbia ones on sale for BF for $30.

Not sure, but I think the difference is just in the name. North Face may be what her friends are wearing.

There's probably no real difference in terms of quality. However, is North Face highly desirable in your area (and in the age group of your DD) and Columbia not? In that case, don't waste your money on buying Columbia!

I've had decent luck finding North Face jackets at Marshalls. It will still be more expensive than Columbia but not as much as full retail.

I don't think there is any difference, just that north Face I have found VERY rarely goes on sale, and Columbia does fairly often.

I have both and the NF is warmer but the Columbia is a good value for the money. I don't know about fads so I'm no help there - I just bought the NF because I heard they are super warm and we've had some terrible winters lately.
Both have held up and laundered well. I am happy with both.

I have a teenage daughter & North Face is big with her group.
I have found some Macys coupons don't exclude it & others do.
I would go with the brand she asked for.

We got a Dick's coupon for $20 off a purchase of $100 or more, and some use that for northface jackets.

I love North Face. I'm tall, I'm long armed and that is the only brand that seems to cover those issues. I really hate when people assume I'm wearing NF because they think it is trendy. I want to scream, look! my wrists are covered!! I don't have any Columbia fleece but I have been pleased with how well my NF fleece wear.

I don't know any big differences but I'm sure enjoying the Columbia commercials lately!

In a city near me, North Face is not allowed to be worn in school because it is affliated with the gangs.
However, in my area, north face is like Gap over Espirit when I was a teen.

The difference that may matter most is that the Columbia jackets don't say North Face on them.

If your dd is a brand person then you should get the North Face.

Thanks guys. She hasn't been big into brands, but this is our first year in MS (for her) so it could start. I'll feel her out more and see if she has a preference on brand or just wants it because they are cozy.

North Face is a stupid fad. That has lasted over 40 years! Ha, glad I'm not the only one with NF gear that old I think it's like some other brands, there's the technical or high end side, and the lower specification mass market pieces. If she's buying for style, at an outlet mall or Kohls, the warmth/ durability probably isn't any different between the two labels.

If she wants North Face - get a North Face. It is all about the brands. The Columbia might be cheaper, but not really, if it isn't what she wanted.
Around here (and we are not on the crest of any fashion wave) The younger people wear North Face and the older people wear Columbia.

I hadn't heard this. What city? Kids at many local schools would be coatless lol. sweetpeasmom, As for Northface, check Sports Authority, possibly online. They have had several on sale super cheap. I know the black, a pink and grey and I think a blue/purple color were marked down 50% off. I bought a black one, no hood, for $40 during Sniagrab and some of those items were still available recently.

I would have to take a close look at the type of fleece each jacket has before making a decision. Maybe the NF is windpro (or whatever technology) and the Columbia is "just" regular polar fleece. I have to LOL at the thought that young folks wear NF while older folks wear Columbia - whether that is true or not, my 13 year old son wears a Columbia winter jacket and I have a 20 year old North Face jacket.

I don't know about fads so I'm no help there - I just bought the NF because I heard they are super warm and we've had some terrible winters lately. That's funny because I went to REI last winter and tried on every brand they had, including their own brand, NF and Columbia and I walked out with the Columbia, mostly because of the reviews of the staff at REI. They said the Columbia jacket has a better rating and will stay warmer for longer.

I have a north face from high school, a Columbia and a newer north face, all similar styles.
I much prefer the north face jackets, they're warmer.

North Face is warmer and cuts the wind more effectively. They are meant to last for the long term.

REI Outlet online often has good deals on The North Face, so check there.
I have both Columbia and TNF gear. I like them both, but TNF definitely is more stylish for a teen. Columbia absolutely skews older, style-wise.
