The Terro traps are great. I recently bought a version that are in a stake form and you can put them outside of your house where the ants are gaining access. So they don't even make it into your house. They feed outside, go back to their colony which results in the death of the queen ant and ends the colony. That sounds like a bad TV movie plot.

I'm just surprised the baby powder didn't work. It's always been 100% effective for me, indoors or out. Dogs and cat weren't the least bit interested. (For some reason the Johnson & Johnson BP seemed more effective than generic.)

Get some DuPont Advion - this stuff is AMAZING. I have used Terro with OK results.
I bought a tube (syringe) of Advion on AMazon. Holy Cow! I would put a few small dots of it on a square of aluminum foil. At first that dot would be covered with ants. .. ick.... by the next day - NO ants. Zero. None. Dead. Gone.
I have battled ants for years. This stuff works. If you see a few later on in the season, put out a couple foil squares with it on it again. I have had the same tube for a couple years and have hardly used any of it.
Great stuff!
Works on roaches quite effectively according to the reviews -but I have never had a roach.

We also use the Terro, and have had good success with it. Before I discovered that, we'd use the boric acid/sugar/water and it worked really well too.

You can also cut up a straw and put them in a bag with boric acid/water. Use gloves and tape the small straws to the edges of walls/sills/counters where the ants collect. They will go there and the next few days you will have a ton around the straws. They will all die within a day or two. I have done this and no more ants.

I've always done this for the huge ant hills in my garden, except I don't dissolve the borax and sugar together, just mix a few teaspoons of each other and put out. The ants seem to take both substances back to their colony. This would certainly be a far less messy method! I'll try it next time I need to get rid of some ants. Thanks.

Thanks for this info. Coming from a pest control company who probably wants to use something far more toxic, I'm not sure I can trust it. Further research would be a good idea. What I have used and what worked is the Mule Team Borax in the method I described in the OP.

I want to try this but can you clarify? Do you use boric acid or the borax? Thanks! Sorry for the confusion. I used Mule Team Borax.

OH MY THANK YOU! I'm going to go mix some up right now. We went camping in Myrtle Beach and our campsite was loaded with ants. Next I know the camper has them in there EVERYWHERE! Tiny little red things, in every drawer, counter top..bleck. So now we've still got them in there and I don't want to spray it with Raid or anything but I need to get rid of them!!

There are days in the summer when I am total convinced that my house was built on a giant ant hill. They come just suddenly, marching in lines like obedient little soldiers.
My best success has been with Terro. However, it makes me nuts to see them keep coming by the thousands to partake of my special buffet. It's hard for me to be patient and let them feast. I soooooooooooooooooooooooo want to get the sprayer with ammonia in it and give them the biz!!

Only thing that has helped me is diatomaceous earth. A crumb left on the counter results in herds of ants, sprinkle that around them and it does them in. Doesn't get rid of the colony but gets rid of the ones on the counter and the ones that follow!
I'm marking my spot AND bookmarking this thread!
