1. Go to the grocery store. 2. Buy a tub of Bob Evans mashed potatoes. 3. Take home, heat, and eat! I gave up on making my own mashed potatoes long ago! We eat them so seldom, I don't feel bad about buying them in a tub! I was running really late one night a few weeks ago so a grabbed some of the Bob Evans. I was really surprised at how good they were.

My kids my mashed potatoes "Glorified Mashed Potatoes" LOL They are pretty damn good! I use russets, peeled and boiled, drained. Mashed with sour cream, plenty of real butter, salt and pepper, canned evaporated milk (best) or half and half. Make sure to add enough of the liquids (milk, sour cream) so the potatoes are not to dry! Mix in grated parmesan cheese, Monterey and/or mild cheddar (not too much, just enough chives and parsley (fresh is best but dried will do). These are great with gravy, top and baked with more cheese or eaten as is. As my family says, they'll be singing your praises for a long time. It all came about because I was sick of plain old mashed potatoes and just started added everything to them. Now no wants the plain stuff.

I go to the store, go to the section that has the mashed potatoes already cooked and get the Bob Evans ones. Seriously the best. DH hates instant potatoes and these pass muster with him.

Yukon gold potatoes, boiled with garlic. Run through a ricer. Butter (not a ton), some milk or half and half, some sour cream, roasted garlic, generous amounts of kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper. This, almost exactly. Except this year, it will be low on the salt addition. A ricer makes THE.BEST. mashed potato. run through once and done.

Yukon gold, baked (never boiled) and put through a ricer. I add a little milk, butter, cream cheese, salt and pepper and whip them up with a handheld mixer.
The ricer is the best invention ever for those like me who cannot stand lumps. Lumps in mashed potatoes make me gag.

Desiree potatoes, peeled, cooked in the microwave 15-17 minutes. Drain, add milk, then butter. Mash by hand. Done.
