- A pair of Hee Haw overalls. They had cartoons and quotes from the show all over them on a navy blue background. I was about 8 when I had them. My sister had those and I was so jealous! She wore them until they were way to small for her just to tantalize me!
I wish I had my multi-colored poncho that my great aunt crocheted for me. I loved that thing!
I also had a pair of orange "hot pants" bibs that had a green frog on the front of them that I was hot stuff in when I was in the 5th grade. I wore my white vinyl boots with them!
My grandmother made me several beautiful full skirted dress when I was really little that I wish I still had. The were adorable with little pinafores and ruffles.

My drainpipe Lois jeans that I got when I was 15. I loved those jeans so much. I think they were the first branded pair I ever had, and they were so gorgeous. I did keep my red Tartan Levis shirt that studded up the front, and DD wore it when she was younger. I also kept an Indian cotton blouse, skirt and quilted waistcoat that I got for my Christmas parties in 1980. I remember it came from Dorothy Perkins and cost £24. That was a lot of money, and I was warned it would be my main Christmas present. DD wore that a while back too. My mum made most of my clothes, so it was a real treat to get 'bought' clothes instead. I also remember being into the whole New Romantic look, and wearing an outfit my first year of university (81-82) that still makes me smile today. I had a full, red velvet skirt that buttoned down the front. I wore it with black riding boots, a frilly white blouse, and my denim jacket. I thought I was the bees' knees!

I had a knit sweater from my grandmother for years and then for some stupid reason, got rid of it. I would have loved to put that sweater on my daughter and snap a pic...she's my little mini-me.
I also had a doll that I held onto for a long time until I got married. I wish I still had it so I could have shown it to my girls.

I had the baddest pair of plaid hiphugger bell bottoms that you'd ever seen...I truly wish I had kept those.
I DID save a couple of jackets. One is my favorite pea coat from high school and a spring jacket covered with peace signs and "Woodstocky" icons. It would actually be pretty much in style currently, I think.

I wish I still had my first pair of Guess jeans. My mom refused to buy a "ridiculously over-priced" pair of jeans, so I saved for months to buy my own. They were acid washed with zippers at the ankles, and because I have freakishly long legs, about 5 inches too short. I wore those jeans until I absolutely could not get them on anymore!
I did keep one of what my cousins and I refer to as "grandma sweaters". Every Christmas, our grandma would knit each grandkid a hoodie. She always bought yarn from the discount bin, so it was fun to speculate what weird color(s) our sweaters would be that year.

My silk screened Michael Stanley Band jean jacket; my Levi's Jean jacket, a super cute chocolate shorts and summer top outfit with if daisies on it, DrScholls wood sandals, 2 ponchos and a sweet pair of bell bottoms!! You must be from Cleveland. I remember lots of summer nights at Blossom watching MSB. I was always surprised that they never made it on a national level. As for clothes, items I wish I still had: fair isle sweaters, my bermuda bag with the whale cover, and my original copy of The Preppy Handbook.

....and BTW I still have my purple parachute pants that I wore freshman year in 1984! Yeah budahhhy!!

I had the original Swatch watch, I got it the year it came out. Sadly, the strap was eaten by my dog. A T-shirt given to me by my Grandfather. He got it free from the company he worked for. It was the only thing he gave me. He never wanted kids let alone grandkids. When I outgrew it my Mum sent it to a Jumble Sale, where I bought it back. No clue what ended up happening to it after that. I just know I don't have it now and wish I did.

I still have (I think) a striped top and pants in a lovely turquoise color. Bell bottoms. When we were allowed to wear pants to school for the first time in 6th grade, that was the outfit I wore. I still have my wooden Dr Scholls from high school - we all got them one summer. I wish I had the very first dress I made - red hankerchief pattern that tied at the shoulders. Made a little head scarf with the material also. Boy, did I think I looked great!

All of you that still wish you had a special piece of clothing, might see it again!!! My mother-in-law has been telling me about a dress she wore in 1959's (she was eleven) church Christmas program for years. She had described every detail of the dress from the plaid fabric, the ruffly tulle trim, the velvet sash. Oh, how she treasured it so much since she rarely had anything that was not handmade on the farm by her mother. This came from a real store!! A very special treat!! About a month ago, while cleaning her mother's house in preparation for her auction, she found her precious, beautiful dress!!!!! For over fifty years her mother had safely stored it. She brought it home and it is as beautiful as she described!! Every special little detail, EXACTLY how she remembered. To make it even more special, my daughter carefully put on the dress. She is 20 years old but quite small, so she could get it on. She twirled around the house, I'd imagine exactly like Grammy did in 1959. The only difference, she was taking "selfies" with her phone and Grammy was taking pictures on her ipad instead of the just relying on a mental picture Grammy carried all these years.

My mom saved several of the clothes my sister and I wore growing up. DD9 has used a lot of them (good thing retro is a trend). It seems to me the quality was much better in the seventies than it is now.

jackie - I had a couple pairs of those Bass sandals and loved them! Was just thinking of them this past summer and wishing they had something similar now. There was a denim shirt jacket that I embroidered designs on that I wish I still had. It was the early 70's and I thought it was the greatest thing! Why I didn't keep that, but still have my 2 prom dresses and 3 different drill corp uniforms 40 years later is beyond me. Oh goodness, you brought back a memory....my Mom embroidered me a couple of beautiful shirts in the early 70's.....she also sewed cute embroidered trim to the hem of my bell bottom jeans.....I don't have any clothing from my childhood (other than a baby dress or two) but I do have memories of the clothes from back in the lat 60's early 70's.....I can't decide if they were cool or hideous....

I designed a pencil skirt in high school with a high low hem. I loved that thing. It even had buttons up the back. I wish I still had it. That and a cream colored sweater. It had a hood and knit flowers on the hem. I think my dd would happily wear it now.
I do still have a dress my mom made for me when I was little. Yellow with cross stitch flowers. I have pictures of each of my girls in it.

We weren't a picture taking family, I have very few photos of my favorite outfits form childhood or teenage years. Awhile ago, I thought I should try to draw some of my favorites and post them on my blog, I'm still working on more but here are four from the mid '60s. These also included my hairstyle of the era, my glasses, and other accessories. The orange dress from 1965 was so cute! Drop waist, double breasted brass buttons, tiny little narrow belt, and lace collar and cuffs. I wore it with my black patent leather double T-strap maryjanes. The 1966 dress was my junior high graduation dress, made by my older sister out of hot pink crepe. I loved my cool mod shoes! The next outfit is an oversized houndstooth A-line dress with a mandarin collar and black zip up the front. I wore that with black 'Pilgrim' buckle shoes. The last one is another homemade outfit... but not for school. We weren't allowed to wear pants or shorts to school. Only skirts, dresses or coulottes. I found a similar outfit to this in Seventeen Magazine, and I had my mom make it out of red, white and blue striped cotton. Cuffed shorts, and the most awesome shoes ever, as I recall they were Nina's with red and white layered soles. Wish I had anything from my teen years, but all I have is my memories!

Have I mentioned that I am a nostalgic hoarder? haha I actually have a LOT of old clothing from my childhood, packed away. Why? Who the hell knows? Good memories I guess... The super groovy fringed leather vest is from kindergarten. So, about 44 years old. The incredibly awesome KISS concert shirt is, as you can see, from the Alive II tour. Sadly the KISS shirt is just a present my mom brought back from that concert for me. We didn't get to go to our first big concert until 1979 when I was in 6th grade and my brother was in 3rd. It was KISS/Cheap Trick/New England at the Pontiac Silverdome. I also have my flowergirl dress and headpiece from when I was probably 3 or 4, from my Uncle Gary's wedding. He died soon after at the age of 21 in a horrible car crash. I still remember his wedding day and how pretty I felt all dressed up!

I didn't save anything nor do I wish I had saved any clothing from when I was a child. I do wish that I had saved more of my toys though.
My mom did save a couple of outfits from when I was a baby and a vest from girl scouts that she gave me about a year ago; but to be honest, I'm not attached to them, and if anything happened to them I wouldn't be broken up.

I still remember my very favorite outfit...maybe 1979? It was a Gunne Sax dress and I had Famolare shoes to go with it. My mom made most of my clothes back in the day, but this dress was store bought and was the real thing. I felt like a million dollars when I wore it.

I had a coat when I was five that was to die for. It had brown, white and yellow flowers on it with a fur trimmed hood. I have a pic of me sitting on Santa's lap wearing it.
I also wish I still had my zipper-from-the-back-under-the-crotch-to-the-front jeans. You could actually separate the two by just unzipping them. Everyone thought I was so risque for wearing those.

I forgot to say earlier I still have a sweatshirt that I wear to this day from my sister's college.. MIZZOU.. I LOVE it even though it is so worn out.. the collar is frayed, the sleeves are frayed.. it's thin now.. but I still love it and wear it.. this has been going on since 1990ish...maybe even 1989.. which I was A LOT smaller but I remember telling her to buy the BIGGEST one she could find. Well yeah I am sure it looked pretty silly on me way back.. but it still fits this fluffy gal!

My stuff was all hand me down, nothing in fashion, popular or sentimental. I had a friend give me a Levi jean jacket. Loved that thing. Wore it from 80-87 non stop. Embroidered on it by hand, badges sewn on it, imprints from comb in pocket. Lol. My friend passed away and it was a great memory of him. It was destroyed in the tornado in 87. I missed it.
