We had the hemorrhoid warning too- I was completely baffled and terrified when we went to football games and had to sit on cold metal bleachers. I sat on my hands for 4 hours every friday night for the entirety of elementary and middle school .
If we walked on freshly mopped floors before they dried it was a BIG deal....that cleaner would soak into your skin and eat your feet plain off your legs.

When we were playing too rough, Mom used to yell out, "Settle down there. I don't want to have to make a trip to the Emergency Room tonight (or today or whatever)" Kind of a back-handed warning. I say that to my kids all the time. I really DON'T want to take them to the ER! My mom would never let me walk barefoot outside because "You'll step on a used needle or rusty nail and then you'll need to get 100 tetanus shots and they'll HURT!" In our quiet, leafy, suburban yard. Yeah, right. But to this day I hate being barefoot outside. We were also never allowed to drink soda out of a bottle like this: Because "You will bump into someone or someone will bump into you and knock all your teeth out with the bottle. Or the bottle will get shoved all the way to the back of your throat and you will choke and die." My mom was serious about these things, too.

Either my mother or father told me not to play in a wheelchair or I would end up in one. Same with crutches, don't touch or play with them or you will end up with a broken leg.
I came from a very superstitious culture.

Another one similar to linda~lou; You could go blind if you sat too close to the television! Oh I forgot! I heard that one too!

My DD is a knuckle cracker and it drives me nuts. I used to always tell her that it would give her arthritis but unfortunately she's too smart and the last time I told her that she went into a long and detailed medical explanation of what that is not true! Smart arse!

When I started shaving my legs, my mom told me to not shave above my knees or I would get cancer. I was so embarrassed in gym class with half shaved legs that I secretly started shaving above the knees. I prayed every night that I wouldn't get cancer due to my vanity. Ugh. Why did she say that??
