I hosted Thanksgiving this year, which I usually do. I enjoy cooking and love having a house full of people. I'm pleased with how my food came out this year, improvements on the stuffing, yams, and cranberry sauce. But want to know what the real hit of the day was? This puzzle: I ordered it from Amazon on a whim the other day, and everyone who came through had to stop and work on it. My sons girlfriend, who is shy sometimes, got lost in the fun of it and spoke and interacted much more than normal. My brother who planned to leave after the early afternoon feast, stayed until evening when the puzzle was completed. Grandma, Grandpa, EVERYONE loved the puzzle. Who knew it would be such a hit? What was a hit at your gathering this year?

That's awesome!
My sister bought a bunch of gross games for the gaggle of little boys in the family, but the adults ended up playing them and finding them hysterical. We had Gooey Louis (you pull boogers out of his nose), Pass the Gas (like hot potato, but with farts) and Pop the Pig.

Pie face. We bought it for my 10 year old nephew for Christmas but decided to pull it out tonight. It was a messy blast!

My (extended) family would be all over any game or puzzle-that to me is better than the meal-fun interactions with your family. My husband's family is a bunch of sticks in the mud. We have tried to incorporate, but it is of no interest to them. This makes me miss my family :-(

No littles at our Turkey day fest any more but my mom always has everyone play a few games. We all look forward to them. This year she had everyone bring a wrapped gift for a raffle. I'm sure you know the rules. Everyone gets a number, chooses a gift, opens it and then can keep it or take someone else's gift. I haven't laughed so hard as I did over my family of 24 fighting over who was going to get a framed MRI of my nieces brain, elk steaks from my son, a pair of panda slippers, a keychain that played sayings from the Wizard of Oz and many more. It will definitely go down as one of our best family get togethers.

What was a hit at your gathering this year? Puzzles have always been a huge hit in my family. No one talks while doing one. We sit around the table, concentrating, then someone shouts "GOT IT" and someone has found a piece. Everyone says how great that is and back to silence. It is good for bonding, though. We (the whole family) spent many, many hours doing puzzles after Christmas dinner. What an awesome idea!!! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for sharing! I just bought this. We always have a puzzle out over the Christmas break and I hadn't picked one up yet for this year. Now we are all set!

We do a puzzle at my house every year on Christmas Day. We watch movies, work on the puzzle, relax and nap. Exciting day, yes? We don't have any littles yet so it's a nice quiet day. This was one of my best Thanksgivings ever. I picked up my DB and we went to see my DS about 75 minutes away. We went to Cracker Barrel for dinner and then drug him out Christmas shopping. We made him designated lackey. He had to push carts and carry bags. We laughed our rears off and encouraged each other to spend far too much. Him? He never bought a thing. We are 3 of 4 single siblings in a family of 9. Everyone else is with their families. My brother's kids live out of state, my sister's and my kids had other places to be. It was so laid back and fun. We had no idea who had what on sale, we just wandered through store at leisure and bought what we liked.

It's definitely a fun puzzle to do, I hadn't worked on a puzzle in many, many years and didn't realize how much it could draw people together. We're a talkative bunch and the puzzle only brought out more of our goofiness - definitely not a quiet activity for us! Now I think I need to buy a Christmas one to work on I love reading about what the rest of you guys were up to, thanks for sharing!

We do a puzzle At Christmas, love this choice!
Although framed MRIs could be a hit mystery gift too. Seems like we have Almost a full knee collection this year!

We have done a White Mountain puzzle two years in a row and I love them. I asked for another for Christmas this year. So fun.

Because of geography, I spend my holidays with inlaws and the only thing they like to do is argue while the TV is blaring. It is a real downer. I had to put my foot down 2 years ago this Thanksgiving and insist that we will not spend holidays with my DH's family. We compromise and spend another day near the holiday with them. This Sunday we will go down to DH's sister to go to a movie and have pizza. However, that is a ploy so she can have my DH work on her computer for 3 to 4 hours until I have to insist we leave.

That puzzle looks like a good one. We tend to call them just jigsaws in the UK and I had problems once in Florida trying to find some in a B&N. Once I described it, the assistant just said "Oh a puzzle!" as though she'd just solved a huge one herself!

We've never been a puzzle making family but I want to give it a try. What do you do with the puzzle once it's finished? Does your family put the same puzzle together multiple times? Do you take it apart & put it away for another time or is it a one time deal? TIA!!

We usually have a puzzle for Christmas too. It is a great idea for a Thanksgiving gathering.
Yesterday we ended up with all the Friends Thanksgiving episodes running one after the other in the background. OMG, they are funny.

I just ordered that puzzle. MIL likes puzzles and I've been looking for different ones that aren't landscapes that she would like. She seems to like the ones with lots of graphics that are very similar so the candy wrappers would be right up her alley.

That looks cool, we do a puzzle at Christmas, I'll have to look for that one.
Ours was a game/app called 7 Second Challenge. You get a question and have 7 seconds to answer it, and you are recorded and can watch your play back. Questions are things like invent a new sport involving geese and describe the rules. Spell your name backwards. Pronounce sausage backwards. What is 4x4, divided by 4 times 4?

I'd never heard of that brand, but did read that Springbok puzzles have gone way downhill in quality lately. Happy to know about these!

I bought two puzzles for Christmas, the colorful doughnuts and the Barcelona market. I saw that candy bar one too. We love puzzles! We got one last year that I thought was an old desk with shelves that had a bunch of old fashioned kitchen stuff. As we put the puzzle together it was full of little tiny people doing different things in all the nooks and crannies. It was fun to see it come to life.
