Bottom line: Everyone should do what they want with their money. It's not up to others. You made it, you spend it how you see fit. I don't care if someone wants to spend it on a bunch of material things, and I don't care if someone wants to spend it to help others. I don't think either choice is anyone else's business but for the people who worked to make the money. Do what makes your heart happy!

This just went up my Facebook feed: I'm SO freaking sick of people going on and on and on about Black Friday/Cyber Monday/big corporations forcing us to shop and spend money. Yes - I happened to be driving through the US on Friday, and yes, I did stop at a Walmart and buy stuff. I volunteered with a charitable organization who help start the "Giving Tuesday" several years ago. They really pressured us to give money, even though we were giving our time instead of cash. I was involved with many meetings about this initiative and I was upset with how much paper, postage and human work went behind this project.
Everything right now is about "giving towards others". Toy Mountain (CTV Toronto), Giving Tuesday, CBC & GLOBAL have there fundraising initiatives all this week and going until Dec. 21st.
Then there is the fundraising for the new Refugees that are coming to Canada.
Then there is the push from the Sally Ann everywhere & even they are getting pushy. I have heard that they are paying some people to be there at the kettles as they don't have enough volunteers.
The local Food Bank is really, really pushy. So many more people out of work due to various reasons. I feel for the people of Edmonton & Calgary as the requests for the Food Bank has gone up more than 25% this last year due to the oil field job loss. The people working at the oil fields were making good $$. Did they not save some of it?
I am feeling rather tired of having to "help those who didn't set aside for their future". Yes, there are some that due to situations are truly and desperate in need, however, I am tired of every. single. place. I. go. these days, there is someone looking for a hand-out.
Thank you, Vent over.
I volunteer for my local Sally Ann. I had not heard that. We are in a small town and there is no money to pay people for the kettle drive. The main organiser gets paid and that's it. As it is I'm helping out on FB for her to get more people in because she is just not getting enough. Today in the store I had a guy put this nice black leather winter coat on the counter. He said, can I pay $15 for this? I just smiled at him and said what does the tag say? He said $25. I said then that's the price. He pouted and I said well it goes to a good cause. He said sure. Then I over heard him leaving with a lady saying Wow I got this $100 coat for only $25 dollars! Sigh. The store needs to make enough money to stay open and run all the programs it does to help people. I find it highly amusing on how people think it's Let's Make a Deal store.
