I started graying in my early 20's. I started coloring it all the time to cover it up, it made me feel older then I was. Then at the beginning of this year I decided to quiet coloring it. I was tired of dealing with a white root line every few weeks. It is actually growing in pretty nice. I have heavy streaks of white up front at the top of my head, but the rest is about 25% gray (per my stylist). I've had a few comments that my hair looks like Rogue from the X-men.

I suppose that's a perk of coloring every 10-14 days, no time for grey to pop through! ha

I had dark brown hair and then grey started coming in. DSO told me he thought I should start colouring it. He was right though, it did lighten my face up once I got rid of the dark brown and grey. I don't know how much would be grey now? All? Most? I don't have any idea anymore. I am now 47 and am getting my hair coloured next week.
DS has 3 grey hairs too. I told him and he said he knew. (I secretly said YES, he's all my boy!!!)

I'm 48 and I have a few greys mainly at the sides, and one or 2 on top. I get my hair coloured with 3 different colours: blonde, brown, caramel or red, plus my natural colour makes 4. My theory is that having more colours in my hair will disguise the greys better. (I HATE that the spell check on this site is based on US spelling, it keeps telling me that "grey" and "colour" are incorrect!! ) I only get a half head of foils, so my hair underneath at the back is my natural turd brown colour. Imagine my shock the other day when a friend and I were discussing grey hair, and I pulled my hair up only to discover OODLES of grey hairs underneath. I said to my friend "My hairdresser must have known about this, WHY DIDN'T SHE TELL ME?!?!?!"

I treated myself for the first time a couple of weeks ago to having my hair professionally colored. I've been doing my own out of a box for at least 10 years. Making conversation during the process, I said, "My hair is probably 50% gray now!" She corrected me quickly, "Actually... more like 75%." How *honest* of her! I guess it matters to a colorist-- it probably affects her work. But I sort of wish I didn't know. I had the opposite case. I'm deliberately going gray. See all these pictures of deliberately gray hair. Call my long term stylist and ask her if it's possible, considering how little gray I have. She corrects my and tells me I actually have quite a bit of natural brown left. Lol.

When I stopped coloring my hair about 3 years ago (had been doing it since I was in my teens) I thought I'd be about 50% gray. What a surprise: it was around 90% gray. My dad went gray early (Mom didn't start going gray until her 60's), so I must have inherited it from him.

My hair guy is always looking, he keeps saying "I bet this time!" but I'm like my dad's side of the family and at 39 still haven't found a single one (which annoys my mom who started coloring at age 32 to cover the gray). He is positive he is going to find the first one though, it's like a game now. I'm moving and he is going to be so disappointed next week at our last appointment, because I'm pretty sure there is nothing there for him. I'm 37, and not a one, my mother is not amused. I'm 38, no gray yet. I continue to look daily. My mom was completely gray by 30. My dad didn't start graying till he was in his mid 50's.
