I have always colored, even before the current craze started. I never stopped coloring since I was a kid. I always found it peaceful, calming and comforting. Since there were not many adult coloring books, I have always colored in kid's books....Barbie being my coloring books of choice because of the pretty clothes . I still love coloring in kid's books but I find myself using the adult books more these days because there are so many great ones to choose from and I like the detail work.

I thought I would like it and bought the Secret Garden one, never used it and gave it to my oldest daughter. Just could not get into the whole coloring thing for some reason...

I like the grown up coloring books because there are smaller sections. Kid coloring books, which I've always colored in, tend to bore me after a bit. There isn't enough variety on a picture. The grown up ones hold my attention more.

I don't color, but I imagine it is like how I feel when I do handwork. Long winded, some what crazy reply: I think we live in such a fast paced world, surrounded by technology that stimulates us to the point of being overwhelmed and doing things like hand sewing, coloring, painting...whatever it is allows us to simply stop. Stop the overstimulation, stop the stress of thinking all the time, stop the technology and take a few moments to become immersed in a mindful pursuit that soothes our souls. At least that is how I feel when I do hand work. I appreciate the fact that there is technology involved, and I find the repetitiveness of hand work very soothing. There is no constant bombardment of information over load unless I decide to turn the tv on. It is mindful but at the same time not something that requires my full attention so I can let my mind settle. And there you go...my blah blah blah for the day.

My 19 year old has requested an adult coloring book on her Christmas list!
She is in college and says that many of her friends color!

I also don't enjoy coloring in big space, it's all about the detail. I'm hoping to get one of those books like Lost Ocean and Enchanted Forest. I feel these books are more arty devoted than the illustrations on children's coloring books. ( I'm not including the specialty ones like Dover ) And I love that "lose yourself in the process" feeling. What's that proper word for it? I just mentioned this in an earlier thread. Immerse, engross, engage, delve, alpha - stated, zone out, meditative...etc? I welcome it so much and smile so big when I realize I have slipped into it

For me, it's just something to do. It takes your mind off of things because you are concentrating on staying in the lines and picking out colors. It is not a creative process for me. I only use sharpie markers and colored pencils.
