Just wondering. This machine is all I can think about, scrappy-wise. Should I jump or wait?

I love it though I wish I would have bought the big one. I can think of a lot more uses for the large format.

I don't have it but I'm intrigued. I read that if your laminator gets hot enough, then you will only need the pen and foil.

I don't understand. Didn't you already get one? That's what I thought you were saying in your last Minc thread about the melted folders.

I bought a scotch laminator. works fine, much cheaper. I have a Scotch laminator. How would I use it like a Minc? A laminator and the minc are basically the same thing. The difference is that the minc has 5 different heat settings. I started with a laminator and had really good results. I only purchased the minc because of the size. So to use your laminator like a minc, you can run any laser printed piece through the laminator. Just put a piece of foil over the laser printed piece and sandwich them between a piece of copy or parchment paper and run it through. Be sure to let your laminator get nice and hot. The results really are not much different.

Thanks streetscrapper. Sounds awesome. I think I will buy a few things and try it before buying the Minc. That would be great if I don't need the machine and can use what I already have!

Patter, I doubt you "need" a minc. I bought mine in a moment of weakness. I really could have just continued using my laminator because I got awesome results. Some people don't get the best results with laminators. I had the best results using parchment paper to sandwich the paper/foil. When I tried the Heidi Swapp folders, they were too thick for my laminator and it didn't work as well. Stick with parchment paper and you should be just fine!

Thanks for the parchment paper tip, streetscrapper ! I can't wait to buy supplies and try this!!! @patter Don't know if you are close to a Joanns or not, but last night I was able to pick up some Heidi Swapp Minc Christmas stuff for 70% plus a 25% off coupon for my whole purchase. You could try them first (even if you don't like the designs) to see if you like the results.

I love it! I am not a tools person, I try to avoid the newest/latest thing. But I couldn't resist a BF ad for $40 for the mini. I like smaller machines, never use my bigger ones bcz of their footprint.
It's fun and I can see where there is a lot of things to try with it. Hopefully will have more time to play after the holidays. I am hoping it gets me back into card making a bit too.

I believe it was another user who said that she already had the Minc and was having issues. The user names are not the same . With respect to the Minc, I've had one for a little while and I've used with the pre-made embellishments and I like the foil accents I can add to my page. I have also seen some really creative things done with it at my LSS using a combination of inkjet and laser printing so that you get some elements that are foiled and others that are not. I'm hoping to experiment more with it in the new year.

My user name is threegirls and I posted a question about the Minc that I recently purchased. link I never had a problem with the machine itself and never had a problem with melting folders. My machine just smelled funny when I used it! The person who responded to my post is right - its just "new machine" smell. Another user - 3girlsmomma also posted about the Minc - linkand again about the Minc (this thread you are reading).

I remembered because I replied to it, and I looked at her post history before I said anything.

The Minc is a popular topic right now!

The concept is cool but Minc items are super thin! I was very disappointed when I accidently bought a pack of Minc October Afternoon empherma. Super thin. The designs were not even printed correctly AND were not cut correctly. Even my second pack was the same.
I think it would be worth it more if you had a printer and foiled your own designs.
I love the foiled look but will just continue to buy premade papers and embellishments.

saralovesducks your link just brings us back here. But I looked at that laminator you listed. It has a 5 mil setting which is the setting I use on my Scotch laminator that I grabbed at Walmart. I turn it on and let it get to the blue ready light and then go about 10 minutes longer. Works like a charm!

Some laminators work well, others not. Mine (Fellowes brand) was not the best - I think because it wouldn't get hot enough. So I ended up with the Minc which I love. I have heard good things about the Scotch laminator (which Jennifer McGuire used before she got her Minc). I believe that has 2 temperature settings which may help.

So your design has to printed from a laser printer? Yes, but it can be done with stamping. I think the video is posted above. It that is not the veideo, she does have one.

So your design has to printed from a laser printer? There is a toner pen now, too. I've been experimenting with it and have even had ok results writing on and foiling glossy photos (from Walgreens) with the Minc on 2 and 3.

I got fairly good results with the Scotch laminator and I also ran my paper through the copier twice to build up the toner.

Do you need a color laser printer or can you use a standard black laser printer?
