I'm an okay organizer. I've got systems that work for me from trial and error in my years.
Day is so not an organizer. He's the guy that takes everything on the kitchen table, swipes it into a box that he shoves under the extra bed, when I ask him to help pick up.
I've cleaned and organized the garage 3 times in the 6 years we've been together. The first time I did it according to what made sense for me. It didn't stick, both of us got frustrated and I did it again. The last time I did it, 2 years ago, I asked DH questions about what he uses, when he uses it and how. It gave me a better idea how to organize. But it was again a mess within a few months.
I've come to realize that me organizing it isn't going to work. But his organization, again, consists of random crap in the same tote and not being able to find anything without some hunting and pulling a lot out.
Do professional organizers help you develop a system that works for you, with your limitations? Or do they tell you how it should be done and try to make you see why it works best?

My understanding is that they assess the area of concern, find out what you use the most and help you be able to get to it more efficiently and be able to keep it clean. Sounds like DH is not going to help keep even his area clean so I don't know Id spend the money on a "professional" when you have a good system and he still won't follow. Frustrating I know, fortunately my bf just gets the hell out of my way when I'm organizing and lets me be.

Dh will let me do it, but then destroys it. His brain works differently that mine and realizing that made it all much easier. I was just hoping that a third party would seem like it wasn't me nagging him and that person could help DH figure out what works best for him.

The best thing I ever did for organization (for my husband) was buy clear bins and a label maker. He couldn't organize himself out of paper bag, that's one area where he and I can't get on the same page!
Maybe a professional organizer wouldn't be a bad idea, someone who isn't biased and can maybe get him to see a different way of doing things.
