Sorry, guys... I'm trying really hard to make sure it doesn't look like I'm shilling here, which is why I haven't included links, etc. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. I don't think you are being a jerk at all and I would appreciate a link so I don't have to go searching, that's a beautiful kit! I think we should start a monthly thread where all the designers who are here can link us up to their new stuff! I dont think you are being a shilling jerk :-D. I sincerely am looking for good info on digiscrapping. I love that kit you posted above and just signed up for the newsletter!

I do both traditional and digi.
Does anyone use GIMP to digiscrap? Never heard of GIMP. I use PSE (9 right now but will probably upgrade to 13 when it comes out).
How do you organize your digital accessories? I have ACDsee right now. I'm not crazy about it. Even though I backed up, I lost my tags when a computer crashed. I do like tagging items. For file organization: I started way back with Store, then type of item (Kits, Papers, Fasteners, Brushes, Journaling spots) but have recently gone to Store/Designer/Kit. I'm thinking of getting Lightroom or My Digital Scraproom for organizing and tagging. I prefer to scrap digitally like I would traditionally, which means many times I'll mix items. I generally know what I want: a circle, a journaling label, a wood veneer, a doily, a staple.... So tagging helps speed things along for me.
Did you have to explore things yourself or are there some good videos you recommend? I took a few classes. one with Rhonna Farrer and I think all of the Jessica Sprague ones. If I were going to take a class today, I would check out Tiffany Tillman. I love her layouts!
I just found P&Co and the Lily Pad a few months ago through the Digi Show podcast, which is now canceled. I recommend the digi files podcast as well. As you can go check out new designers (I just started listening to the most recent of those today while chopping vegetables). P&Co and the Lily Pad are now my favorite digi shops.

I started digi scrapping about a month ago. I am a hybrid scrapper (12X12, PL and now digi) and I love it. I still have to print the LO's I have done. I organize the kits by theme. It would be nice to take out all the flowers, zippers, tape, etc. and put them in their own individual folders but that sounds like a lot of work. YIKES! I use Photoshop. But, can someone tell me in layman's terms how templates work? A template is like a sketch in that it prompts you to place things on your page in a certain way. There will be shapes that you can clip your photos and papers onto and indicators of where the title, journaling and so on fits. They can be a big time saver. I found that there is a free class at Big Picture www.bigpictureclasses.com/digitemplate.phpThank you!

And a big thing to remember in the digi world is that credits when uploading is proper etiquette - it is really frowned upon not to state the product and designer of whatever you have used. Frowned upon by whom? Now I remember why I stopped posting layouts in galleries. I'm not a kit scrapper so it takes me way too much time to credit each flower, paper, word art, etc. that I might use on one layout. I have paid for whatever it is that I am using, I am not on any CT's, so I guess I will have to be frowned upon or not post. I don't frown upon people not crediting but it irks me if I love a product and no one knows where it came from. People should get credit when they work their butts off to design an item. I open word when I scrap and just write down what items I am using as I go. I have a macro for tracking supplies but I can't figure it out. Gennifer - I can't imagine you being considered a jerk. I do understand though where you were coming from thought wise. I have all my downloads on my EHD and have them sorted in a few folders (Kits, PL Cards, Templates) If the kit is called Lemme Take a Selfie by Jady Day purchased at Sweet Shoppe Designs I have it in my Kits folder and call it lemme take a selfie - Jady Day (SSD) This way I know where it is from and who designed it. I don't break my kits up. I keep them all together.

Those digi scrappers who know me well, know what I'm about to say.... so I'll say it in as many words as I can! I started digi scrapping in 2006, I was asked to teach a group of women in my church how to do digital scrapbooking for a class some months in the future. I didn't even know what digital scrapbooking was. So, rather than go on-line and see what it was all about, I simply used my graphic design and Photoshop skills to create my own pages. It never occurred to me that there might be this whole world of kits and downloads and stuff. I already had a 'style' so to speak, from family history pages I had created, and all of the cards, posters and other publicity I had done through the years. So, to make a long story somewhat shorter, by the time I joined 2Ps about a year later, I had already developed my own style of creating everything in my layouts. I didn't see any compelling reason to change, so I kept doing it. And I do it today. The only commercial thing I use in my layouts are fonts. Everything else is simply colors, photos, textures, and technique to create my layouts. For years I tried to encourage others to give it a try- to create a layout from scratch using nothing but photos & memorabilia. But it never really caught on. Now I don't really care any more, but for a long time I didn't understand why people wanted to spend so much money and time organizing and tagging and storing all this stuff. I do get it now! I still love scrapping my way just as much as ever. It means the only thing I have to organize are my fonts. I do have some texture files, and I have vast iPhoto libraries of photos that I often use for backgrounds and frames and the like. When I post online, I only add my fonts to the credits. and that's really just as a reminder to me so I don't have to go back to the original PSD file to see the name of a font. Anyway, it's just another option out there. If you're interested, you can see my former 2Ps gallery here.

I open word when I scrap and just write down what items I am using as I go. I have a macro for tracking supplies but I can't figure it out. That is actually a really good idea about opening a word document and write it as you go along. I always wait until the end, then I'm searching like crazy trying to find something. I will definitely be doing this.

In Ps cc,there is also a place to find recent files used.It is under File-open recent and gives you a list of the products that you have used and or images. I try to delete mine after I have finished a layout,so that it is fresh for the next layout.

I have paid for whatever it is that I am using, I am not on any CT's, so I guess I will have to be frowned upon or not post. It can take a long time, so long ago I started adding a layer when I was creating my page to keep track of each item I used. When I was done, I made sure it was all updated and accurate. If I saved the .psd file, I just kept that layer way at the bottom, so it was never seen, or turned off the "view" for it. This was the simplest way I found to keep track of it because I don't necessarily stick to a kit, designer or shop when making a layout. If I uploaded the layout to a gallery, all I had to do was copy/paste that layer and all of the attributions were made and giving credit where credit is due! My method may not work for you, but it might for others - just throwing an idea out there.

Hmm... I feel like you can still find quite a bit of free stuff around, but like straggler (and most new digiscrappers), I definitely went on a freebie binge and downloaded a ton of stuff that I never used. My suggestion would be to download multi-designer freebies until you get a handle on your style. Most stores have at least one available at any given time, so you can download one kit and "try out" 20+ designers in one go. For example, here's the current NL subscription freebie at P&Co: You can get it just by signing up for the NL, and I'm pretty sure most stores have something like this. You can also find good freebies by liking stores' and designers' FB pages, too. Wow, this is a huge, beautiful kit for a freebie! So impressed! Having just found out about your store, I will go sign up now. This is one of the things I just LOVE about digital scrapbooking - the fact that we get to interact with the designers and shop owners in a different way than in the traditional scrapbooking world (in my view at least).
