No doll, but she had a creepy portrait of some pope, I don't know which one, that hung in the bedroom where my sister and I stayed when we visited. We cried and fussed every time until she took it off the wall. My grandma had a picture of her own mother on the wall. The glass on the picture was rounded and thick, so it appeared that Great-Grandma was looking at you no matter where you were in the room. We kids swore her eyes followed us around the room! Hated that picture!

I was never afraid of dolls or clowns as a child, but my DD was. Back in the 90's when she was just about old enough to stop playing with dolls and American Girl Dolls were the rage...my MIL bought her a "My Twin" doll that had the same hair and eye color my DD did. And MIL bought an outfit for DD that matched the outfit the doll had on. My DD HATED that thing! Made me put it in a box in the top of her closet...where it remains today (DD is now 26!) I'd get rid of it but MIL is still living and asks about that doll on occasion. Gah! I'll toss it the day MIL passes away.
I have a friend whose MIL bought HUNDREDS of those porcelain dolls for her DD....they are all boxed and when MIL passes, they will hit ebay.
Crazy what we have to keep to not upset MIL, isn't it?

LOL! Cute My mother-in-law collects dolls, their living room is full of those creepy porcelain dolls. It's really unnerving to try to hold a conversation with all of those "eyes" on you. I don't know how her husband can stand it!

Yep. And my grandmas house was haunted too. Nice ghosts, but still...actual ghosts.

No dolls and not grandparents, but babysitter. She had a life-sized stuffed german shepherd dog. It sat (or laid actually) by the front door. I was scared of that thing, but I wasn't scared of dogs. I've no idea why it bothered me so much.

When I was a child Patty Playpal and Betsy McCall were 3 ft tall. I still have the Betsy McCall doll and my DIL would not sleep in the guest room unless I moved it or put it in a closet. I loved that doll but now that Zi think about it, she is creepy looking.

Yes!! Her name was Topsy and she lived in the back of the toy cupboard. We kids were all too afraid to go get any games or toys out of there in case the scary freak doll jumped out and attacked us!

Not in her house. She gave it to me when I was little. It disappeared shortly after it showed up, and turned up in the basement when my sister cleaned out my mom's house. She sent it to me -- bless her heart. Imagine getting this lovely surprise: I tried to leave it on the shelf at the swap shop at the dump, and the woman who works there chased me out saying "Oh no you don't!!!" What. The. Eff.

Uh, so I literally just stumbled across this. I had no idea they were going to make this into a full-blown movie. I am now wide awake, and won't be sleeping for a while. It's a trailer for the new movie Annabelle. If you saw the movie The Conjuring, you saw some of Annabelle's story. annabellemovie.comSeriously creepy doll story. Thought it would fit in perfectly on this thread! But really, if you're easily freaked out by creepy dolls and don't like to be scared, don't click that.

Yes, my parents do! One of my sisters and I took it and we were going to mail it to my other sister to freak her out (but haven't yet!)

My grandmother had a large doll collection that she kept in her spare bedroom. I hated sleeping in that room.

Isn't it a requirement that grandparents have scary things in their house?

All dolls are creepy... I didn't play with as a child because of this.

Isn't it a requirement that grandparents have scary things in their house? Yes. Yes it is. My grandparents didn't have a creepy doll, but they did have a stuffed armadillo. On the dresser in the guest room. So that was tons of fun. Trying to sleep with that buggy black eye watching me. Oh, and waking up to it was also a treat. Heck, I didn't even know wth an armadillo was!! I thought it was just a fancy name for monster!!

My grandma had 2 of those 3 ft dolls! My sister and I slept in the same room as those dolls. They were on the shelf in the closet that had double sliding doors. Grandma would leave the closet light on so we would be less scared. It glowed around all four sides of that door and that was worse than just knowing the dolls were in there! We fell asleep staring at those doors, just waiting for them to slowly slide open. At 49 I'm still scared of dolls!

Not a doll but there was a water stain on the ceiling that my cousin and I were certain changed shape. It mostly looked like hands. It creeped us out and we refused to sleep in that bedroom. Now, my Grandpa is gone, Grandma is in assisted living, and my cousin and I agree we'd give anything to be back in their old house- creepy hand-shaped water stain and all.
