Thank you so much everyone! I keep walking in the room and just standing there looking at it, it's so refreshing and exciting for me!!! I will be sure to continue to post updated pictures, I'm hoping to make a trip to Ikea this weekend, we will see. Fun! What pieces will you be getting?

Fun! What pieces will you be getting? In the back left corner I want to put an armchair of some sort with a small side table. In the middle of the back wall I want a ladder shelf for all my machines. The file cabinet by the door will eventually be replaced with a pretty white one, but for now this one will be its placeholder. I think I want to put a 2x2 Kallax at the end of my table, where the wire shelf is now. (I'm considering searching for another similar type shelf because a Kallax will be a couple of inches too tall and wide next to my table, though I may decide to just live with it) On this side I want a new chair to work in, and I want to put a 2x4 Kallax either horizontally under the window, or vertically next to the window. I don't think I will be able to decide that until I get the piece in here. As far as blinds/curtains, and other ways to soften up the room I am still lost! I start to struggle when I get down to those details, so any suggestions would be welcomed!

So much pretty to look at, love the crisp white trim and the new wall sconce! I think your additions will look really great, and especially love the idea of all of your machines on the ladder. Personally, I wouldn't cover up the trim because I am in love with it I think a combo of thin white wood blinds mounted as far back as possible and Roman shades (or faux) to bring in some pretty fabric. You could make a pillow to coordinate for the corner chair. Also, have you considered spray painting the gray filing cabinet?

I had an old grey file cabinet (think 50's office style) repainted a while ago. The shop used some powder/heat process (maybe enameling?) and it came out perfect. It's never chipped, the finish is baked on. It wasn't expensive either.

I worked at a bank that updated all of their interiors at one point and they had all of their dark brown filing cabinets painted that way. I'm pretty sure we didn't even have to empty them out first!

It comes out with a perfect finish.

Love the wall color and the trim painted white!! Have fun setting it up!
I had old file cabinets that I sprayed white with spray paint for metal surfaces. They were in my craft room for a number of years and I don't think the finish ever scratched.

I thought about just painting the file cabinet, I thought it was a bad idea because it's got some rust spots (that's why it's sitting on a towel) but DH says that shouldn't matter as long as the prep work is done appropriately. dewryce I thought about the faux wood blinds, they were what I was leaning towards but I noticed the top piece on all the ones I was looking at was so bulky! I've also been looking at roman-style blinds, maybe with some short curtains framing the windows. Not sure, really stuck on this one for I did some work in there today, but progress has been slow, I have a nasty cold right now. My SIL is coming over monday to craft though, so I want to make sure it's at least usable by then. I hope I'm not over-sharing, I just love seeing other people's pictures so I'm doing my part to contribute. I forgot I had a Billy Bookcase in my basement, so I took the doors off and brought that upstairs. It's snug, but it fits and it was free. It is the Ikea off white so it clashes with the trim, but I guess I can live with it. We bought new closet doors today, they are primed already we just have to paint them. Long term I want to do built in shelving starting about halfway up in the closet, so for now I put some old shelves in there so I could make sure that's what I want. I will eventually get a raskog cart to replace the rickety white one, but that will hold all my daily use tools (scissors, adhesives, pens, trimmers, etc.) so I can just wheel it out as needed. The more I look at the file cabinet, the more I think I want to paint this one. It just fits in that space way to perfectly! My ladder shelf is en route from amazon, so I put another one in its place for now. You guys must think I have a furniture graveyard in my basement! (Sadly, I kind of do ) Thanks again for looking! Hope you are enjoying as much as I am.

You must be excited to see it start coming together! Can't wait to see more pics I love all of the storage I have in my closet. I went with the Elfa storage from The Container Store so that I can change it around and add drawers as wanted.

Your room is coming along fabulously! I love how organised your storage inside the wardrobe is.
I could definitely see either faux wooden blinds or a roman on your windows and I'll add my vote for painting your existing filing cabinet.
Thanks for sharing the progress shots - I love seeing into the creative space of others.

That's coming along really nicely. The white desk looks so nice in there!
I kinda wish I had a furniture graveyard to pick from, without having to really store it.

I hope I'm not over-sharing, I just love seeing other people's pictures so I'm doing my part to contribute. No, not over sharing! I love seeing pics of other people's rooms, especially threads like this. Once my messy hoard is a little more organized, I'll probably post some too. Keep up the good work!

You are so not oversharing!! I'm getting inspired to clean my scrap area now. I can't redecorate since it's the formal dining room. Congrats on the new space and keep sharing!
