Weary = tired, worn out Wary = cautious or apprehensive Not singling anyone out; I've just noticed a lot of people on this site and others typing weary when they clearly mean wary. My OCD is having trouble with this. Carry on!

As I was opening your post, I was thinking, "I know the difference, right?" And I did. Super similar words.
I'll add a couple that have been driving me crazy at work.
Alls is not a word. "Alls I have left to do on your file..." and knowing she's often speaking to attorneys. Ugh. Embarrassing.
And acrosst. Not acrossed, because it's said with such a strong "t" sound at the end. By a couple people in my office. "That never came acrosst my desk."
Oy.

The word is across. No double c, no ed, and no t.
Just saying.

Here's one that is killing me on Facebook: Someone posts a cute picture. And a bunch of people respond AWE!!!!!! Dude, there is a big difference between aww and awe. Lol. Awe refers to a sense of wonder or amazement or a sense of being mesmerized or fascinated by something. One is typically said to be in awe of something impressive: "Nan stood in awe of Niagara Falls." Aww is not even really a word, but is the sound we make when we express sympathy or experience a heartwarming moment or see something cute. "Aww, thank you so much for your kind gift." My PSA for the day.

I know the difference of most similar words, but sometimes my head says the right word while my fingers type the wrong one and I don't always catch it because I don't always proofread.

FB feeds are notorious for these kinds mistakes. sometimes I can't focus on the point of the comment because I get distracted by all the misuses.

Happens to me all the time-and a lot of times it is because in my head I hear my accent which tends to add all kinds of sounds where they aren't supposed to be.

Someone posted an article on Facebook lately about how many variations of spellings and pronunciations aren't WRONG...they are just evolution of language. It referenced "axe" instead of "ask" and used many more examples of words or phrases that are in our collective "grammar pet peeves" list. Whether this is right or wrong, I was cringing just reading the article. I've had to correct DD(13) twice this week for typing "ladder" instead of "latter." Here's one that is killing me on Facebook: Someone posts a cute picture. And a bunch of people respond AWE!!!!!! Dude, there is a big difference between aww and awe. Lol. Awe refers to a sense of wonder or amazement or a sense of being mesmerized or fascinated by something. Aww is not even really a word, but is the sound we make when we express sympathy or experience a heartwarming moment or see something cute. "Aww, thank you so much for your kind gift." My PSA for the day. I'm OK with this one because aww isn't a real word....if I were to pronounce either in that "awww" tone of voice, they would sound the same to me. If I were using it, I would spell it with extra "w's": awww.

My pet peeve is incorrect use of your/you're. I also notice a lot of quite/quiet confusion eg I am quiet tired.

Maybe Wary + Leery = Weary Yep, I believe this is what is happening when people use weary like wary. I see it quite often online too.

The word troubling me today (i.e. wanting to stick a fork in my ear), is the word "mines". It is fine to say, "That pencil is mine.". Please do not say "That pencil is mines" or where is mines? Mine is not a plural word in it's possessive form. If you are talking about land mines, coal mines, etc. then it can be plural.

They also called the Pacific Ocean the Specific Ocean. Actually, everything that has been previously posted has appeared in essays I have read too often. When I was in college, we were taught to not correct the child's misuse of words but to say to it correctly so that they would hear it correctly. For the record, it is much more effective to tell them the mistake.

It's "there are too many cars on the road." Not "there are too many car's on the road." When did people start doing that and how do we make it stop? ?

My pet peeve is Rest Rooms vs Bathrooms. I can't take it when someone is out in public and says they are going to the "bathroom" - yeah right!! Take a shower while you are in there!?!?!?!?!

It's definitely, not defiantly or definately. That one drives me bonkers. I know some of it is autocorrect but the second is just stupidity. I want to correct them every time I see it.
It's "I want to sell this," not "I want sale this."
Why do people keep insisting that women is both singular and plural? But yet they don't screw up man/men.
Quite/quiet/quit are also annoying autocorrects I see on social media.
I could spend the entire day correcting the idiots on social media but it'll result in absolutely nothing.

Well, I'm not resting in there either. I'm taking care of business and getting out there as fast as possible.

leannec, someone posted that meme on my page for/about me yesterday. Almost all of these annoy me. Last week, I just got on someone for posting "pacific" instead of "specific." I could not even focus on what the post was about because I was so distracted by that glaring error. Ugh. Lisa

My NOMA (Nat'l Office Mgmt Assn) spelling awards won in high school and my administrative/secretarial background habit of proofreading take a beating when I'm reading almost anything nowadays, but on Facebook I really have to sit on my hands! Besides all of the ones mentioned above, a silly one that also makes me want to shriek is "woah"... what the hell is woah?? The word is whoa, people... w.h.o.a! There is no such word as woah! Jeez!
