I want to take the plunge into designing watercolor pieces/backgrounds for my LO's & would love to hear your tips/techniques and see what you have created.

I should try, but I feel so obligated to use the tons of pre-made paper I've bought.
That's probably a dilemma for another thread. I realize my over shopping has distanced me from part of the hobby I enjoy. Trying to find balance...

I love watercolors and have started using them on some of my pages. I always use pattered paper too, though, either mount the layout with the water color background on patterned paper (like Wilna always does), or use patterned paper layers alongside the watercolors (like Anna Maria). I don't have any examples posted, sorry. The only tip I have is do the watercoloring before you add anything to the layout, then arrange (but don't attach) your photos and embellishments. If you don't like it, add more color, or start over. (I've had to do both.)

I have never seen her work. Do you have a link? Loved your tips - TFS!.

I am/was interested in watercolors, too, so I started a thread about it here: 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/2599/question-who-use-watercolors. I found the resources listed to be very helpful, and even went out and bought a set of watercolors. Now, I just need to set some time aside to experiment with them. HTH! I've been using watercolors more on my cardmaking than scrapbook layouts lately (that could be that I haven't made a page since April though LOL).

I've mainly used Gelatos on backgrounds, around the edges or under layered elements in the middle. I started using them because I wanted to add bright color to vanilla cardstock (and wasn't finding paper like that) to then brighten up some older BG papers I wanted to use up. I've also used pan watercolors to color in die-cuts from watercolor paper since, again, I wasn't finding what I needed pre-made.

Monil - I LOVE your LO's! Your use of Gelatos and watercolors is awesome!! I am definitely going to try a few scraplifts using your LO's as my inspiration.

Awhh, thank you ladies! And no, sometimes I use cardstock mainly if I want a yellow cast to it like my first two examples. If I use cardstock then I go with gelatos because I add the color dry and then just use a wet brush (or a wet finger if it's stuck on the texture) to blend which means that my paper holds it's shape better. I have an 11x14 pad of watercolor paper so if I use that I will have to make my background 11x11 and then back it with patterned paper. Not only is it significantly cheaper than the next size up but it's nice to add the patterned paper to make it sturdier. It's much easier to get watercolor to "play nice" on watercolor paper and that is what I started out with.
