I was just at our county fair this week and walked through the exposition building. I didn't buy anything, but did get a free chip clip, a wooden yard stick, 3 pens and a "smashed penny" from one of the exhibits. There's always an abundance of key chains, stickers, candy, pamphlets and other giveaway promotions. My go to, must have fair food is a gyro (and a famous cream puff if I make it to the Wisconsin State Fair -yum!)

We usually eat our way through the Wisconsin State Fair. I don't know that I will make it this year, tho. I went to Summerfest for the first time in YEARS! I love the vendors at all the festivals here in the summer. I purchased a purse that looks like an owl. This will be my festival purse. Easy to carry, goes shoulder to shoulder, and small enough to put just what I need in it. Love it. Very bright and colorful. I've had a couple of compliments on it so far.

My favorite part of the fair is always the shopping! I love fair crap! IDK its just fun to shop.
Most things I've bought I've really liked. Hand made tortilla warmers for the microwave. Handmade jewelry, jewelry cleaner, tennis shoe cleaner, mops, sham wows.
I love hitting the Watkins rep table, trying all those dips and picking up some flavor extracts. What else. I can't think of anything else right now but I always take fun money to spend.

Fried dough & kettle corn are a must! I always look at jewelry & usually wind up buying something. I like to look for odd flavors of homemade jam - last year I bought Strawberries & Cream - OMG - to die for! Buying more than one jar this summer. Back in 1992 we traveled from NY to Mass. to visit The Big E, (I remember this vividly because Hurricane Gloria was moving up the East Coast & the entire ride up that's all we heard on the radio). Anyway I bought one of those "never needs sharpening, serrated, best knife in the world" knives. Well it's been on my knife block since then & it still is one of my go to knives to slice, dice & cut just about anything. Seriously rivals some of my $100 knives and I paid $19.99 for it AND go a second one "free". Went to a Home Expo show a good 15 years ago and bought a set of these for $19.95 - 10 steak knives and an assortment of six other knives from paring size to larger slicing knives. Still work as well as the day we bought them, we use them all the time, they are great! Also used to attend the spring and fall craft fairs, there are a bunch of them here in NW AR. Bought everything from funnel cakes, dip mixes, jelly, crafty holiday decor, potpourri, placemats, and probably a bunch more good stuff that I'm forgetting about!

We used to do the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain every September. It is a big arts and crafts fair and it is wonderful. For 12 years, we didn't miss a one. I bought my grandfather a unique, handmade bird house there every year for Christmas. He passed away and I haven't been back since. Just couldn't stand the idea of going and seeing the birdhouses and knowing he no longer needed one.
Maybe this year.

We go to the Calgary Stampede every year and there is a big exhibition hall with people selling all kinds of things there ... A couple of years ago we, like the OP, bought a hot tub This year we bought one of those $200 massager thingies that you can put behind your back or under your legs ... oh, and three silver toe rings to wear on vacation

The California state fair is one of my best childhood memories. But not for the shopping.. For the horse racing!! Lol my main goal was to win enough money to buy a cabbage patch kid.. I would pick the horse and my grandma would place the bet. I always won big..lol!!

We bought a massager and foot massager. They aren't bad, but no where near as good as a real massage. I was very tempted by the VitaMix, as I am every year.
Sacteach, how did those tube thingies for chip bags work? I was tempted by those too.

I love the Gripstic! It's the one item we bought last year that we still use regularly. I currently have on one cereal and another on a bag of chips. They keep the food fresh and are really easy to use.

sacteach, did they have Merlino's orange freeze? That is my absolutely favorite fair food and perfect for the HOT weather at the CalExpo.

Besides the yummy fair food, I have purchased sweatshirts and metal yard art. Our fair is coming at the end of August, it's always a fun end to summer.

I didn't get one but that's because I get one every two weeks when we see a Music Circus show I love to mix the lemon and strawberry! For food we split a foot-long corn dog when we got there (around 10:30am!), then my mom had a huge baked potato for lunch and I had soft tacos (which I thought were gross). We got caramel apples to bring home for dessert. We also brought our plastic cup from 2009 that they refill with soda for $2. It's larger than the refillable cup they sell now
