I have an opportunity to go to my very first away from home crop. I'm not sure what to bring! I have loads of supplies and I'm terrible at pre-planning pages. What do you guys bring? I have a rolling tote I bring and it has misc cardstock in it, my trimmer and my supply bag with adhesive, scissors and all that stuff. There are also some brads and other stuff in there. Then I have a plastic tote with whatever photos I am going to work on and whatever supplies I have to use for those photos. For example if I am working on a trip I took I throw everything in the bin that I might use for those photos. Now the retreat I am going to next week I actually have 2 plastic totes because one has paper and one has embellishments that I bought for these photos. Usually I try to pare down to one tote but this is a big project and I hope to actually make a dent in some of these supplies.

When we still had LSS's yes. I worked at one and would always attend the Friday crops. If the room was full I would scrap on the front counter We went to this 3 day retreat once in the summer ( well once for me but it's an annual thing for this family company ) I had a blast! Scrapbooking till 2am, yeah these were my people I can't believe it's almost been 10 years! So do I attend crops? Sadly no. Oh how I do miss them.

I've never been to a crop, but I'd like to go to the on at scrapbook expo this year, but I don't have any friends that scrapbook and I'm nervous about sitting by myself or with strangers that might be weirdos and ruin the crop for me.

I prefer to scrap at home - I do have a nice space and all my stuff. However, I do enjoy the classes, learning something new and so forth - so like to go to CK even though it is shrinking. Also, a one day thing now and again.

You should go. They will only be strangers for a little while until everyone gets going, and you might even make a few new scrappy friends! Most of the time the people at crops are friendly, helpful and fun. I've only had a couple of not so great experiences at crops (usually at the overnight retreats, those I would be a little more careful about knowing the other people there and only because you're kind of stuck with them day and night), and most of the time they are a ton of fun. Bring along some music and headphones just in case, and you'll be okay.

I've never been to a crop either. I don't know anyone IRL who actually scraps anymore! Although I got all kinds of excited yesterday at an open house we went to when I noticed a lot of boxes in the basement labeled "scrap room"!!!!!! Makes me wish I could meet the owners and see if they were moving locally. I was sorely tempted to peek in those boxes to see what kind of stash she had!

I do and wish I would more. I have this fantasy that I'm going to spend all this time in my scrappy space at home, but I just never do. I don't have my own room, but I don't have to haul everything out, either. There's no reason for me not to be down there scrappin' away, but other things just seem to get in my way (can you say TV?). My issue is always the $. I just can't justify spending a few hundred dollars, even for a whole weekend. My pal & I were using her brother's beach house in the often season and for about a year we went just about every month from October thru April. He lent it to friends this fall and while they were supposed to be out in January, I haven't heard from her and we obviously haven't gone. I really miss it. Sometimes it was just the 2 of us, but more often we would get a couple other pals and it was a lot of fun. And it was free! There is a monthly crop at a church that I've been to a few time. I always enjoy myself and it's also free - you just have to contribute to the themed potluck lunch. Trouble is, it's over an hour away. By the time I pack the car, drive there & back, unload the car . . . it just doesn't seem worth it, so I haven't been in over a year. Sorry I rambled so much. Your thread reminded me how much I miss crops!

I co-host a charity crop twice a year. I go to a weekend crop every January.
I definitely get more done at a crop. I'm focused, I have people I can bounce ideas off of and I don't wander off task and start organizing or looking at things on line. LOL
I don't pack a lot. I know I can always add things later or borrow from a buddy.

We have a group of ladies that rent a space out that we crop in normally. Usually someone is there every Friday night and all day Saturday and occasional weekday. If you aren't part of the group you can still come and just pay a small fee to crop for a day. Once a month we do a larger theme crop and have a potluck and games, etc. In addition to that I run a retreat group with a friend - we hold 3 -4 retreats a year at a hotel in the area. Another person in our group above runs two fund raiser retreats a year. So, yep, I go to a lot of crops and retreats

I really enjoy going to crops. But I do it more for the socializing then actually getting things done. I'm going to a 12 hour crop this weekend as a matter of fact I get more done when I work at home because I'm not distracted visiting with friends I haven't seen in a while. I also have everything I need. No matter how or what I pack I seem to always need something that I left at home. I don't like packing and unpacking my things before and after a crop. That seems to be part of my messy scraproom issue. Because I do like crops, I'm trying to work on that and buy some things in duplicate or just for travel. My group also has weekend retreats, which I also love and enjoy getting away for the entire weekend. My biggest issue with crops and retreats is the time right now. I had a spot reserved at the March retreat and had to find someone else to fill it for me as now we have a dog show that weekend. The show wasn't scheduled when I signed up for the retreat and it's our dogs first show. Our next retreat is the same weekend and our dogs second show - ugh.

I love to go to crops, but sadly the closest store is about an hour away from me. They have Friday night crops each week, but going for a few hours just isn't worth it.
Once a month they have an all day crop, and it's great. Good price, lots of space, yummy food provided. I don't have many friends that scrap though, so sometimes it's lonely to go and see lots of other groups of friends. I get lots done though!

As papersilly said, I have everything I need at home and can watch or listen to whatever I want to. I can play with paper while cooking supper and doing laundry. I can even have a dog sit in my lap. These days, it is Amanda, not Michel since Amanda and Davy are the only ones left. It is just too much money not in the budget to go somewhere not to mention my severe intolerance to perfume, air fresheners and other chemicals. When I lived in Colorado, I was able to take a class at a store 45 minutes away. I enjoyed that but as this was after my husband died, I really couldn't afford to do it again. After I was able to sell out and move back here we had a little LSS for a while. Unfortunately, at the time, all the classes were on Saturday and I couldn't get off work to go. They closed down about the time I got Saturday's off when one sister married and moved out of town. After having to get someone out of my life that wanted to borrow ALL my scrapbooking tools and pitched a fit when I wanted them back, I don't want anyone in my stuff! Well, anyone that I don't know really really well! Sometimes it takes a while to really get someone's character. Oh, I FINALLY got the last of my tools back after the "b" insisted I gave them to her. She even insisted that her husband "heard" me give them to her. I don't THINK so! I happen to remember that he was downstairs at the time in addition to the fact that I'd NEVER give her a die that I didn't have the duplicate to. I only loaned them to her because she wanted to make a baby book as a gift. I don't mind loaning stuff but I want to get it back when I ask AND in the same shape as I loaned them.
